I was diagnosed with the above named cancer same as you in May 2004. I have had a total hysterectomy, chemo and 28 radiation treatments and am doing GREAT!. I go every 3 months (and will for 2 years and then every six months) and so far everything is good.

Faith and prayer and support are worth as much as good doctors. There has been no way that I could have faced this without a great support system and God.

Will be glad to talk with you at any time.

My mother was recently dx with this cancer and had a total hyst. with lymph node tissue removed about 8 days post op. Still waiting on stage and grade. She wasn't initially given a good prognosis. We are still in limbo and confused about this disease and the questions to ask and if she is getting the best care. She is going to Vanderbilt Hosp in TN. Any info you can provide would be of great help. Do you know anything about washings? I read this in another message board as part of treatment.
Hope you are doing well.
Thanks,
Terri

Dear Terri,

I really do not know how much I can help but knowing someone else cares is always a beginning.

The washings that you are referring to are done routinely at the end of the operation and in your
Mom's case both operations.

My cancer had not spread to the lymph nodes and so my prognosis is good.

Attitude and mindset have a lot to do with how cancer is handled. Obviously everyday cannot be a good day but being thankful that you are alive and the fight goes on helps. Prayer and down time to be with God are so important.

Letting the person do all (and I do mean all) that they want to try and do is important, I know this first hand.

Write me anytime.

will pray for you all.

Dear Ann,

Your positive attitude is an inspiration to all of us!!
My mother was just dagnosed with MMMT stage 3. She immediatelly underwent surgery and now she is under chemo with doxorubicin+cisplatin. But the doctors didn't tell us anything about radiation. I would really appreciate if you could inform me what type of radiation they used for you.

Thank you. My thoughts are with you and with all the women that suffer from this rare type!

hope to hear from you soon.

Dear Angelika,

As you very well know each case of uterine cancer is unique; as well, the doctors all view
things differently.

Because my cancer had not spread to the lymph nodes I was told that radiation treatments were the way to go and that 28 treatments was the recommended # of treatments based on clinical studies. In addition I took chemo (cistaplatin?) which is a metal based chemo to help insure the radiation treatments were more effective. I was treated by University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Ms and they are really on the cutting edge I understand.

One of the most important things for you and your mother to remember is to keep the faith, pray each day for God to walk with you and be POSITIVE. Also, do not try to make an invalid out of your Mom she needs to be allowed to do what she wants. We are not different because of the cancer we still who we have always been.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
My mom has the same cancer as well. She also has neuropathy she is dealing with but not from the chemo.
She had real bad kidney problems and she just got a stent put in her and she has been getting chemo for the past 7 mths and her ca-125 is still at 212, before she started chemo it was at 900.
Hope all is well and I wish you the best of luck.

My mother was also recently diagnosed with Stage 3c MMMT uterine cancer. She had a complete hysterectomy. Unfortunately, they found one positive lymph node out of about 40. They also found some cancer cells in the wash. She is doing a clinical trial with combination chemo - carboplatin and taxol. She has only had one round so far and is doing well. Her doctor did not think radiation was a great option for her, because he wanted to also do chemo. Since the positive lymph node was rather high in the region, the area to be radiated would be far too large. Also, they said that the radiation combined with chemo at the same time could negatively impact the effectiveness of the chemo. We have been very fortunate to have wonderful doctors. That coupled with good friends, supportive family and faith in God is getting us through. There is nothing too hard for God!

Everyone-

Out of frustration over the lack of information and support for uterine MMMT, I started a YAHOO support group. The group is very small, but very informative. There are both patients and patient advocates (like me -- my mother was diagnosed in April 2004) at this site. You are all welcome to come and read the literature we have compiled, read our experiences and, if you are comfortable, to share your own.

We need to fight this together, so we welcome your participation!

Please note: to maintain the privacy of the group, I need to approve all memberships. I will certainly approve all of yours, but since I don't check the board everyday, there may be a delay. Please be patient with me.

THANKS!

God Bless you all!

-Kathy
