My brother started his 'cancer career' with multiple myeloma. He received radiation and chemo treatments then had a stem cell transplant 2 years ago. Following the stem cell transplant he continued to receive chemo treatments every 3 weeks-cell counts allowing.
About 10 months ago they discovered he had colon cancer. He was headed for surgery for the colon cancer when an MRI test revealed that he had liver cancer. The colon surgery was cancelled until they could 'arrest' the liver cancer. He has been under chemo treatment for the liver cancer since January '07. Now they have discovered spots in his lungs.
He has been on several types of chemos at numerous strengthes but was recently switched to 5FU. He is now complaining of pain at his elbow bend and the back of his knees. His hands and feet tingle all the time and his feet hurt so much that walking is very painful. His teeth are very loose and his vision is getting bad. He has a very red face all the time but it really gets beet red with any exertion. .
He has now been told that he has chemo toxicity and they have stopped all chemo. He is scheduled to have a PET scan the end of this month but at this time they feel that he will not get any more chemo.
This all is so sad. He has always had a great attitude and has not sat around feeling sorry for himself. He is a real hero to me. In fact he is making plans to visit to Alaska next May. .
