My dad (67 y.o.) was diagnosed with stage 4 Large B cell lymphoma, he went through 6 rounds of Rchop and it responsed very well to the chemo.

The recent PET/CT scan shows that there is nothing found and is considered cured.

To prevent it from relapsing, the Dr. suggested him to go for a Autologus stem cell transplant (Bone Marrow Transplant).

We went to seek a 2nd opinion and the latters recommend him to go for another 4 to 6 rounds of R only. cos given his age, he might not be able to take the process of the transplant.

Does any of you went through either post-chemo treatment? May I asked what should we expect for the 2 diff treatments?

Thanks.

I don't know where you live, but I would strongly suggest and recommend MD Anderson in Houston, TX.  The do some beautiful and wonderful work with lymphoma!!!

Just one thought, even tho they want your dad to do 6 months of follow up chemo, are they totally giving up the thought of a transplant?
If not it might be a good time for him to collect stem cells in case they want to proceed with an auto in the future. His stem cells are ready. An auto is "easier" in that graft vs host is not an issue. At 67 his is near the outer limits of when they'll even consider a stem cell at all. It also depends on his health beyond the cancer too.
I had an auto for my cancer but was 57 at the time and have been around 2 years post sct.
I know there is a lot to think about. Wishing you and your dad the best
