Subject: Aunt just diagnosed with small cell

I was wondering if there was anyone out there who could help me, I need information on small cell cancer, my aunt was diagnosed yesterday, they are doing tests tommorow to see if it spread anywhere else.  What is the pronosis and the survival rate?  What about helping to take care of her, what should I know?

My husband has sclc with mets to his liver. He was diagnosed at Stage IV but we have him on a good treatment plan of Carboplatin and Etoposide with monthly Sandostatin injections. He has responded well with two treatments so far.

He also has carcinoid syndrome (sweats, flushing, diarrhea etc) so the Sandostatin has really tamed that.

I did a lot of research online once we found out. Your local library is a great place to find answers too. Don't give up if someone can't help.

I hope your aunt does well with whatever treatment is decided on for her.

My mom was diagnosed in 12/05 with stage IV SCLC and got enrolled in an Avastin study for 6 months and was fine for abotu 6 months then the cancer recurred and she did the drugs you mentioned in your emails for chemo for 6 months and did maintence chemo for another 6 months and is now relapsed again and is on topecan for tumors on liver (which were there from start but getting bigger) and one 9cm lymph node in stomach. She is fighting and doc said topoecan is last resort at this point. She has fought and won before so we are routing for her..... : ) Good luck hope this info helps. Check to see if avastin is approved for LC yet.

Thank You

Dear Karen,

I just read this older post of yours. I am sorry that your aunt has this monster disease.

Since it was some time ago, (when she was DX with cancer) I was wondering how she has been doing of late. Would you mind updating her condition to us on, please?

I was DX with extensive small cell lung cancer, with mets. to my liver and bones. That was back in 12/2007. I am interested in hearing how your aunt has gotten along, since she was Dx.

Thank you kindly, for any updated post here, about your aunt. I hope that she is doing fine.

Say hey to your aunt for me, please. Ya'all take care. Hugs.

My Best to Both of Ya'all,

Rosie

Savannah, GA.
