Subject: is there hope for liver cancer?
Date: 10/30/2007

My mom was just told today that there is a cancerous tumor on her liver. The doctor gave no other information. She is going to see an oncologist shortly.  Only then will we know if the cancer originated from the liver.

My question to anyone out there is, if the tumor has come from another part of her body (i.e. stomach, colon, etc), what chances does she have for survival? She is 71 years old but has always been active and healthy. She only went to the doctor recently because of a lump in her upper abdomen area and it ached.

If it is primary liver cancer (which I've read is pretty rare in the U.S.), is there a good chance of getting it removed and her being ok?  We are very, very close. She is my best friend. I just need to know that there is hope for her.  I don't want to be in denial, but if someone has been through something similar, I'd really appreciate any response you could give to me.

Thank you.

It depends on how large the tumor is that is in her liver. I had a hepatacellular carcinoma removed from my liver in early March. The surgeon said he got it all and I didn't need chemo or radiation. The follow up blood work and ct scan in June came out great. I just had another one a week ago and I am waiting to hear the results. You are correct about primary liver cancer being rare in this country. Make sure your mom gets help at a hospital that specializes in liver cancer treatment. THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT. Most local hospitals really don't have a clue when it comes to primary liver cancer. Get her good help and ask for others to pray for her. I will.

I went through a very similiar experience wuth my Dad (best friend) in Feb. He experienced pains on his right side and was told it was his ribs. All his blood work came out clear until he had the cat-scan. His tumor in the portal vein was removed in Feb. He is 75 and also very active. His cancer just came back and he is currently on Nexavar.

My dad is presently on Nexavar. Where can I purchase the Avemar. His side effects include a rash on his scalp and his ears. He is tired most of the time. Will the avemar help him?

My husband is also on Nexavar. He is also tired most of the time. He does good until about lunch time then he has to take a nap. His symptoms are loss of appetite, sores in his mouth,(which the doctor gave him some medicine for) and sore feet and a couple of sores on his hand (which are gone now. The nexavar is doing what it is suppose to for him so far. His tumor markers are dropping from 7500 to 750 to 400 and last week it was 270.

Can some one tell me what hospital is a primary liver cancer hospital.  My husband has liver cancer, we found out in May, we have been going to Ochsner Hospital ine New Orleans.  He was on Nexavar for about 3 or 4 months and thought the drug was working.  We have now found out that it is not working and they tell us there is nothing else they can do.  Thye said it was Stage 3.  I do not know anything else about it . We asked how long he had and they told us it was not like Colon Cancer, they could not give us a time.  We are now in the process of trying to get  an appointment at M.D. Anderson.

Hi.. just found this web site & your message lolomike... I had stage 2 breast cancer.. 4 cm size lump Dec., 2005 & was in ruff shape (sudden weight loss, sleeplessness, sores in various places, glands under arms tender etc) but started taking ave & Immpower the first week of Jan, 2006.  By the time of my first lumpectomy March 20, 2006,  was much improved.  After the lumpectomy & setinel node removal, no cancer was found in my lymph nodes under my arm. I about fell out of bed when they told me that at the hospital.  Wow!!!  I would have bet you a million bucks they would have found cancer in those nodes.  They were swollen & sore. At any rate, I give Ave & Immpower (AHCC) all the credit. I also cut out sugar, only minimal starches, no caffiene.  It is now Jan, 2008 & I never had to have radiation or chemo. "No symptoms", I was told.  By the way, I went to the surgeon first, no oncologist til all my surgeries were finished. Didn't see an oncologist until May, 2007 (long story re: surgeries, recovery, etc... delayed the meeting w/oncologist.. I was delighted. wasnt looking forward to that.)  To your question.. sorry I digressed... just wanted you to know, I know all about Ave...lol !!!  I purchase my Ave from betterhealthinternational.com.  My first order of Ave came in a fantastic foam, foiled sealed BIG box with ice packs.  Still cold, cold, cold from a company called Harmony.  Second order from them came in a cardboard box with a couple of ice packs and it was warm, warm, warm. When I called to complain, they said "Well, you know you don't have to keep it refrigerated"....HUH?  of course you do. And this from my supplier?  Were they even keeping it cold at the warehouse?  It has to be kept below 80 degrees or it is worthless powder.  I never was happy with that shipment.  In an attempt to save money, tried a couple of other places & finally found better health.  Their expiration dates are fantastic, it comes shipped in a foam, insulated shipping container with ice packs. And their people are wonderful. I usually call them at 800-772-5568 and ask for Patty.  She is great and will answer all your questions.  Also, Ave is very expensive. Normally $ 160.00 x month but if you order 3 boxes at a time, the price is $ 120.00 x month and free 2 day shipping (you can pay extra for overnight shipping which I do in the summer months).  The Ave MUST be fresh. ( I could go on & on about my experiences with stale Ave. lol)  The way to know it is fresh is... have you ever tried to stir plain Hersheys baking cocoa into water?  Almost impossible.  Ave is similar to that.  When you first add it to water, it just sits on top with a little dropping at a time; then you stir & stir & stir.. it sticks to everything!!  And the taste is not terrific and you mouth should pucker just a little after you chug-a-lug it.  After the last few years taking it, I don't find it too distasteful anymore but it should be a little strong tasting.  Stale Ave barely sits on top of the water before it starts dropping.  It kinda drops like sand.  It barely sticks to anything.  And the taste will be very mild and bland.   Also, don't take it if you are allergic to wheat or wheat products. & don't take it with Vit. C.  I take my c in the am & my ave in the pm before bed.  Vit C strenghtens the cell membranes and you don't want to make cancer cells any stronger than they already are.  Ave works by interferring (sp) with the glucose uptake of the cancer cell, starts to dissolve the coating on the cancer cells so your immune system can attack them and it boost your immune system tremendously.  It doesn't interfere with any chemo treatments and, in fact, has been tested along with standard chemo treatments in Hungary, Israel, China, Japan...etc.  These countries are all more open-minded than the US when it comes to cancer treatment.  Please, let me know how your Dad is getting along.. ok?  And good luck with the Ave.....   phoenix23002

Whoops... I messed up on the price of Ave.  It is normally $ 160 per month, single order.  If you order three boxes at a time, it is $ 140.00 per month.. $ 420.00 total from www.betterhealthinternational.com.. Sorry about that.  Cheapest I have found is $ 127.00 x box from a company in Australia.. grrrrrr..  Good luck.. phoenix23002
