Subject: Question on Lupron Treatment

I'd like some comments on my father's situation and the doctor's recommendation of using Lupron.

My father had a problem with his postrate, 10 years ago. His PSA was elevated but he did not have cancer. They first did radiation and when the PSA didn't come down, they removed the postrate.

My father is now 85 and last year was having some problems with pain in his hip. His General Doctor had a Cancer doctor do some tests. Actually they ended up doing 18 tests (God knows why so many).

They found a spot deep in his hip but couldn't biopsy it because it was too deep. He concluded the pain in his hip was caused by the spot, which must be cancer.

The doctor sent him for radiation. When doctor who was going to do the radiation looked at all the information, she refused to give him radiation. The spot was not in the hip that was causing my father pain.

I made a trip to Arizona to go to the doctor with my Dad (so I could get a straight story). We didn't meet with the cancer doctor but met with the General. He said, "oh the doctor knew the pain was in the other hip" Which totally confused me.

My father's PSA is slightly elevated but has remained under 1.0 Also, the pain in his other hip has gone away. They started him on Lupron last November, to lower the number.

My understanding is there is a risk with weakening the bone.

I'm not sure there is even a problem at this time.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to approach this?

Thanks,
TSP
