Hi
I was dx with stage 3B RCC 1 year ago. 6 months ago small 2 nodules were found in my lungs, this week a CAT scan showed no change in the lung nodules but a 1cm lesion in my remaining kidney. I am planning to go back for a cat scan in 6 months but wonder if there is a way to see if these nodules or new lesion are metastatic disease. I have not recieved any ts except the nephectomy to date. Has anyone had similar encounters?? Does it matter that I wait 6 month to see if it grows???
Thanks
Hello....The new lesions are most likely metastatic from the original site. I definately would not wait 6 months before going back. I am going every 2 months for CT scans of abd pelvis and lungs and every 3 weeks for MRI of brain. Last Thurs., my CT scans of left kidney and left lung showed no advancement but the MRI of left brain tumor shows to be larger. I had Steriotactic Radio Surgery for brain 8/7 of this year. This is a non-invasive procedure with Halo attached to scalp and radiation directed at carefully calculated and measured areas. Was done as out-pt with only local anes. to numb the areas where the halo was screwed in.
Was diagnosed with rcc left kidney with metastasis to left side brain and left lung on 7/2. Have not had my kidney removed at this time. They want me to be on Nexavar for at least a year before doing any surgery. They said the only reason they would take the kidney out now would be bleeding from the kidney or severe kidney pain. I'm going to M.D. Anderson Cancer Treatment in Houston, Texas. They are considered #1 Center of Excellence for Cancer Treatment in the nation. In Fort Worth, where I was originally diagnosed ( a hospital that I am employed at as surgery supervisor) they wanted to do a crainotomy and a nephrectomy as soon as possible. I told them I wanted to go to M.D. Anderson for a second opinion and am so glad I did.
You might consider another oncologist if you feel uncertain about your treatment......The 6 mon period is definately too long to wait.
My heart goes our to you at this time. We have quite a battle before us. Take care.
