I have had 1/3 of my colon removed and am recovering very well.  they say tere are 3 spots on my liver, 2 on one side and 1 on the other.  Therefore removal of parts of the liver are not an option.  I am having a PET scan done at in Col. OH on 11/09/07.  They say it may be possible to go in and take out just the tumors.  I would then have approx 6 mo of chemo.   I am wondering if anyone else has been through this and how it went for them.  I am very optomistic about it but I want to be sure to get a Doc. who is excellant in this field. The surgery would be done at OSU Jame Center in Columbus, OH  Has anyone with this problem gone there?

I am very concerned about this because we lost our daughter to colon and liver cancer in April of this year.  They found hers very late though.  She never got well enough after the colon surgery to do anything about the liver.

May God Bless all of you,  Pat

Please look into Avemar (fermented wheat germ)before you start chemo or any other treatment ! My grandfather(dad) has stage four colon cancer with mets to the liver ! If we would have know about Avemar in the begining I think we would have had a greater chance ! He is currently taking it and it has bought us more time with him ! God Bless You on your Battle Of A Lifetime ! Keep the Faith and never doubt your strength !

Sounds like you need the expertise of Dr. Jerome Canady in Monongahela, PA. He resects tumors from livers where other institutions have said it is not possible. My mother was dx with Klatskin Tumor (cholangiocarcinoma) in Oct. and Dr. Canady successfully resected 40% of her liver. She is doing well; will need  3 months of chemo/radiation but she will be alive next year. You need to contact this amazing surgeon. Please don't hesitate.        Melody

Pat, I have a son Mark with cancer of the liver which is metastasized from the primary tumor in the esophageal-gastric area. The EG tumor was radiated and followed up with lots of chemo. The liver tumors are still present in both lobes. Mark  is 47 and has survived almost three years with liver tumors. If he had insurance he might get surgery but since he either pays cash or goes to the VA, the docs don't want to do much. I will be  very interested to learn how  your search for treatment for your liver goes. I would like to give you a link to a blog I write about my son but I think the webmaster does not permit it. Google Mark Richardson the next adventure and you can read about Mark's experience with treatment in Bangkok and the VA. bettylou

Since I had the PET scan< I have found out that mine has also matastized to the lung.  I went to the Cleveland Clinic ( Ohio)  I saw the top surgens in the liver field and also one in the lung field.  They both told me that had if I only had the tumors in my liver they could be removed, even though they are on both sides of the liver.  But since I also have a tumor on the lung, they want me to have 6 mol of chems before they try to do anything.  If I were you , I would get intouch with the cancer society and tell them what is happening and see if your son can get some help with liver surgery before it goes any further.  I really feel for you and your son. As you probably read, I lost my daughter to the liver cancer because they found the colon cancer too late and she did not heal from it in time for chemo.  I think it was just too far gone.

I will pray for you and your son.
