Subject: Seizures in a dog with TCC
Date: 11/06/2007
It's been 10 months since my 15 year old beagle Billy was diagnosed with bladder cancer, and quite a while since my last posting. Things have been great with him...he eats lots, loves walks, and hasn't had any problems with his anal glands since last february ( chronic problem for him).  He has been on Piroxicam and Misoprostal since last January, and even though there is still some blood in his urine, there has been no straining to pee...just peeing more often. All has been fine until yesterday. We were taking a nap and all of a sudden Billy sat up, looked a little off balance, and then had a seizure that threw him off the bed onto the floor. It only lasted a few seconds, followed by another spasm a few seconds long. I wasn't sure what was happening, and he was lying on the ground afterwards very unresponsive. I took him to the vet right away, and they checked him over and took some blood. The vet mentioned a few things that it could be. The cancer could have spread to the brain, causing the seizures, or onset of liver damage or kidney damage could also be the culprit. The blood work showed a slight elevation for something in the Kidney's, suggesting that there have been some negative changes to his urinary system since we took blood back in February to diagnose the TCC. Has anyone had a similar situation with their dog? In all the reading about bladder cancer and TCC, I haven't run into the possibility of seizures, and I'm not sure what to expect.
