my husband started on torisel last week , oct 31, a couple of days ago he developed a rash.  the rash appears to be blisters but he doesnt have any itching with it.  the rash is on his feet, legs, groin area and hands.  the hands are the only thing that bothers him and they burn.  our local onocologist has recommended a cream but i really dont see much improvement, he is the first pt at our hospital to be treated with this drug.  we were going to graham brown in lousiville for 80 mths and he was in this trial but he received interferon alpha.  also of the people that have had response to thls chemo, have you remained stable or actually seen shrinkage.  thank you and God bless.  This is our last option as he has been on sutent and nexavar as well, also cyberknife , diagnosis was almost seven years ago at which time he has lung mets.

I am excited to learn that your husband is also on torisel. I am very sorry that he has developed a rash. I hope that he finds the right medicine to help. My husband is also on torisel, his first treatment was Oct. 22, 2007. He had also been on Sutent for 7 months, but it did not work for him. He has mets to his lungs and liver and also the cancer has spread to his bones. This is our last resort too. My husband is very tired and weak. Anxious to hear from you again. Marleen

My husband started torisel Sept 13th, he was also the first patient in our center to receive this drug. He has had his first cat scan since treatment and there appears to be some shrinkage of primary tumor and the lymph node involvement is stable. This is the first med for RCC he has been on and appears to have more side effects than most but are very mild. After each treatment the side effect is different and the previous disappears completely or deminished. He has not had blisters but a scattered rash on one leg and under arms,on his scalp and the odd raised red lumps with a pustule on top. These areas are not itchy put has itchy areas around ankles with no rash present. He has also had sores in his mouth, thrush and back and hip pain. Blood work stable except for platelet count, dose of torisel decreased to 20mg and appears to help as platelet count now going up after treatment instead of down. Have noted on other blogs that udder cream has helped with blisters for patients on sutent.

I am also on torisel. I have had nine treatments. I also developed a rash between the 2nd and 3rd round. It resolved itself, but I took over the counter benedryl on a regular basis until yhe rash was gone. Calimine lotion really relieved the itch. I have a different side effect every week. My ankles swelled one week, then my liops swelled the next. The most serious side effect is increased sugar levels. We are trying to control it with insulin, but with limited luck. My first scan after four weeks showed a slight decrease in one lung tumor. I'm due for a second scan soon, and I might take a month off the drug to give my body a rest. I wish I new if this was the right thing to do. My doctor seems to think so, but he is just guessing. Its good to hear and compare with other people who are on torisel. Keep writing!

My partner is on torisel (since beginning of August) and is currently having terrible foot pain - bottom of feet are very red.  Also swelling in feet and ankles this past week.  Ointment hasn't helped much so far.  Any suggestions?

I am currently on a break from torisel. I should resume soon. I never had a foot pain during my treatment, but I did have swelling with the ankles. It went away in a few days, but I would tell my oncologist if I were you. I had to stop torisel twice. Once was because my sugar levels were very elevated, and once because I caught phenmonia. I was already diabetic, but I am now on insulin. Make sure your onc. knows as much as he or she can about this drug. I haven't had any cat scans because we keep starting and stopping the drug, so I don't know if it is helping. My onc said the phenmonia had nothing to do with the torisel, but I'm not sure he knows for sure. The diabeties, yes. Good luck to your partner with the treatment.

Wondering if you ended up taking a break from your Torisel treatment?  The doctor just suggested that my husband take a 2-3 month break.  He has been on it for 4 months with a couple of 2 week breaks to treat slight pnuemonia.  His first scans showed very slight shrinkage of  the mets on his lungs and his recent scan showed the mets on his lungs are stable so she is thinking he should go without for a while and see what happens.  He has been having swollen feet and ankles for a month or more.  That is making him miserable but otherwise he has been doing pretty good.  Maybe a break would help but I also wonder if it is the right thing to do.

I am not taking torisel at the moment. I came down with pnemonia pretty bad in Dec. I am doing much better now, but was in the hospital for 11 days. I see my oncologist again on Jan. 11th. and we may continue the treatments. I really don't know what to do. I don't know if taking a break is a good or bad idea. I guess the drug is pretty toxic, so maybe on again off again treatment is the way to go. I am looking for answers to these questions too. My ankles and feet swelled once while being treated, but went away in a couple of days and didn't come back. Keep in touch.
