Subject: CA-19-9 levels accurate?
Date: 11/08/2007
I was just wondering if anyone on here has had pancreatic cancer with the CA-19-9 levels steadily going down? My mother is on gemzar plus several herbal remedies and her score today was 27.Before she started the treatments it was 118.I know the doctors say that you can't really go by this test, but if it had no accurancy, then why would they all continue to use it? We really believe she is getting better and the tumor is going away, but when we ask the dr how would we know if she had been cured, their reply was "that's a good question".We are going to take her back to the surgeon that tried to do the "whipple", which he was unable to do, because the tumor had attached itself to the hepatic artery. They gave her 6 months without chemo and maybe a year w/chemo.It has been almost 6 months and she gains weight every week (1-4 pounds). She has stopped all pain meds except for the morphine patch, which she will have to stop slowly. She has no pain, except for gas and gas tablets take care of that. She looks very healthy. Her last set of bloodwork looked the best yet, with the white blood count being at the top of normal. Could she really be cured? A friend of mine over-heard one of the dr's talking about us being in denial, but I believe with my whole heart that God could have taken this away from her. Any opinions?
