Tomorrow we meet with the new radioncologist and speech pathologist. They have done some venus dopplers of the jugular and carotid and have hopes that they can do the dissection and still offer him therapy afterwards. All this is new to me, we have no idea what to expect. L. I had SCC of the tonsil, etc., w/ a rad. neck dissection over 6 years ago. I didn't need speech therapy, but the swallowing, etc. really helped. Radiation will tighten up the jaw, etc. We do not even realize how we eat, we just do it. To open your mouth wide, you actually slide the jawbone forward, for example. Can't do that, can't eat a hot dog. I wish I had started earlier as I still can't swallow. In any case the procedure is very sinple and non invasive consisting of stretching exercises for the tounge and jaw as well as swallowing exercises. Nothing to fear about this. Hope it works for you.
