Subject: Others Who Have Undergone Combined Therapies (radiation/chemotherapy)
Date: 03/31/2005
Earlier this month (It seems like a year ago!), we learned that my husband has bladder cancer, transitional cell, localized, but such that they could not remove the tumor (size? location?) It is located on the bladder dome and invading the muscle. The doctor who performed the TURBT described it as "fixed" and inoperable at this time. We had thought that they were attempting to shrink it and try to remove it later, but one of the radiation oncologists implied recently that that would not be done.

My husband is almost halfway finished with his 6-7 weeks of treatment. He seems to be tolerating both the chemotherapy and radiation well - no nausea, white blood cells and platelets look good, though borderline on the red blood cell count. He is very fatigued and still experiences severe pain right after urination. The doctor said his lower back pain is probably due to the tumor pressing on a nerve.

We would love to hear from anyone with a similar case/treatment.
