I have been reading many older posts about those who have had to have a hysterectomy. And had a question maybe you could help me with.

I will be having a conization, for I have adenocarcinoma in situ. Now I understand that if it comes back with carcinoma cells along the margin of the cut, that I will have to go to the next course of action, which from what my ob/oncologist told me, would most likely be a hysterectomy.

My question is...what is the probability of having the conization come back with cells along the margin? I understand everyone is different, but from what I keep reading most people have had to have the hysterectomy.

Hope someone here can help. Thanks. :)

Hi,

I just wanted to tell you my story and then you can maybe question your doctor or get another opinion. I was diagnosed on 10/31/07 with the same exact diagnosis as you. adenocarcinoma in situ and I was sent to an oncologist/surgeon who I will meet with this Tues to discuss treatment options, although I have already been told it will be a hysterectomy. I am not sure why they are not doing that?? When I got the call to come back in after my colposcopy I was sure it was for a leep because of the original diagnosis which was Favor Neoplasia not to dis include HGSIL. When I was told that I have adenocarcinoma in situ and the treatment would be a hysterectomy but the doctor did not know if the ovaries would be removed too that would be up to the oncologist.  This type of cancer is a very rare and very aggressive type there is another website to check into which I also found very helpful called hystersister. There are a lot of post about hysterectomy's and different types of cancer and let me tell you I have learned so much from these women. I am so sorry you have to go through this. Do you have any kids? I am wondering why your treatment options are so different from mine and the one thing is I am 43 and have two kids and my tubes are tied so the reproductive part of me is finished.  Did they say anything else about you diagnosis? Did you have any symptoms other then a abnormal pap? I have had few if any symptoms. Since we have the same exact diagnosis we can really share info and stories. I did have an endometrial biopsy the same day they told me I have cancer and that came back normal which then I was told that the cancer was encapsulated and has not spread. I really won't know much more about that until this Tues and then I will be able to share more with you if you want. Let me know and good luck. Ask a million ??????
