I have been disgnosed with CIN III severe dysplasia after colposcopy biopsy.  I am scared, I have been reading that this is basically a fancy name for early cervical cancer of the surface layer.  I am going to OB/GYN tomorrow to talk about treatments, since I am done having children would it be better to opt for a hysterectomy?  I do not want to go through repeated LEEP procedures.  Please advise, thanks.

I have CIN 3 as well i'm 27 and haven't had any children yet. I had a leep done about 2 months ago and go back for my pap in a few weeks. My doc has said that if I'd already had two children that she would suggest that i get a hysterectomy. I don't even know if I would like to have children I know that I'm not ready for them now, so I'm not ready to have that type of surgery yet. I think that you should definately way your options and possibly get a second opinion before you think about having a hysterectomy. But you should do whatever is right for you to keep you healthy

good luck and god bless

I had CIN111 with traces of 1st stage of cancer 10 years ago at age 38.  I wanted the hysterectomy as had well and truly finished having my children and saw it as a relatively easy way out.....(no more periods etc) , however OB/GYN advised against it saying with regular monitoring it really was a matter of subjecting your body to something that wasn't necessary.  I had the cold knife excision and some form of burning...(sorry not sure).  3 monthly, 6 monthly and now yearly pap smears and still trouble free.

If I got a reoccurrence then I would definitely push for the hysterectomy but in hind sight the doctor knew exactly what he was about.

Good luck and I know it easy to say, but try not to over stress.  It is very treatable whichever way you go and sounds like you have caught it early enough.

Nancy, I am sorry that you are going through this.  This is all new territory for us who have started the journey through something like this.  I have to go in for my second LEEP 12/6.  I really thought my Pap smear would come back normal, but it did not.  I would keep my check up appointments and rely on the doctor to advise you on the treatment.  To me, surgery would be thought of only if the doctor truly advises that.  I am sure our doctor will talk with you and help you through it.  I know it is unpleasant and seems so terrible to go through.  I guess it does depend on your disease process and what you doctor deems best.  Please let me know how you are doing.

Nancy,

I am 22 and have also been diagnosed with CIN III. I am terrified! I'm in the military and our docs really dont treat us like patients but rather as numbers. The military is great, just not our health care. I got very little information and my docs were very cold towards me. If you or anyone else has any info, please share. I know that having children is what I want more than anything else in the world. I would rather die than to have a hysterectomy. I cant afford to have my eggs frozen. Would it be better for my health if I had children soon? I'm engaged but I really wanted to be married for a while before kids. But I would much rather have babies now rather than never.
