Hi to everyone,

I am very new to this, so any imput from anyone is very much appreciated.

My mother has recently been diagnosed with colon cancer, it is in her liver, intestine and lymph nodes. She has recently had surgery to remove it from her intestines. Her doctor did blood tests today to decided what treatments to do. She was also told that the success rate of beating this was only 20%!

Can anyone give me some direction on what I can or should be doing to improve these odds?

I'm already looking at all of the diet books. Does anyone have a quick link to a nutrition web page?

What else do I do?

Nicola,

Even stage 4 Colon Cancer is treatable today!!

Call NCI, ACS, and CTCA - they have all the protocols.

Most major hospital centers have cancer centers, where does your mom live?

Good luck and please keep in touch!

Hi Mila,

Thank you for you comments, my mom lives in South Africa, this is why I am so worried. The health system over there is not fantastic.

This is why I am trying to look at all of the options that are available.

Cheers

Nicola

Why don't you find the cocktail of meds from here and send it to S Africa, for all you know, some of these drugs might be available for them to administer there......

Alternative medicine is certainly another approach and if you go to a bookstore there are many reference books available

Good luck. I'll keep you and your mom in my prayers!

Hi Nicola,

This is not a cure, but definitely a help. I have colon cancer. Cancer thrives in acid. So your Mom needs to keep away from any foods, etc. that have acid like tomato sauce for example as much as possible. The more akaline your body the better it is to fight the cancer. Also eating buckwheat (which is actually a fruit) is good too. I get the cream of buckwheat and eat that instead of oatmeal. I pray this helps in some way. Take care.

First, remember, someone has to make up that 20% and why not her? My father was diagnosed with colon cancer with liver mets in Dec. The first surgeon told us good luck, nothing to do. So you DON'T STOP! and you don't take that for an answer. We are now on an aggressive chemo treatment plan (1x a week with 5-FU with Leucavorian) with AVASTIN!!! He is doing wonderfully and although only 1/2 through the number of cycles prescribed (before a comprehensive surgery) he is feeling better...so unfortunately, you stay positive, you don't stop with medical advice until you find the best and with the most positive outlook and you have your mother VISUALIZE herself getting better. My cousin is in med school and had a patient who had a huge inoperable tumor...she envisioned that being a carrot and her body being a rabbit. Guess what, IT'S GONE! Don't think the mind isn't the best treatment available. Stay positive for your mom, and if need be get her to the US! The James in Columbus is super...as is Duke University, MD Anderson and Bethesda, not to mention Sloan Kettering in NYC...all with outstanding success for just what your mom has. Think positive. Good luck!

Nicola: First let me say this, you have been quoted what the text book say the survival rate is.
In April 2003 my husband was informed that his colon cancer (which was removed Dec 2001) had moved to his liver. Our hometown oncologist told his daughters that her would only live 4 to 6 months, we went to MD Anderson, they said the same thing. My husband has 7 tumors, he is being treated at CTCA in Tulsa and started in April 2003. I could go on and on about the excellent advice and treatment we have received at CTCA. We were told that my husbands cancer could not be cured but that they would do everything possible to give my husband a good quality life. Our advice to you, get the best care possible, rest when you need to and work when you feel like it.

Hi Nicola,

Concerning your mother's case, as far as I know; the prognoses after the operation is almost one year.

Yet we should always have faith and hope, this is a destructive monster, but if you want to take an advise from someone who lost his mother because of the same monster. Her name is Regine and she can make a lot of change to your mother.

But remember the most important thing is to have faith.

As time is of essence, I will direct your attention to the cancertutor.com website, which is loaded with info, nutritional and therapeutic! As a Dr. of Naturopathy, may I also hasten to assure you that every cancer researcher has known(those old enuff, since the early 1950's!!)that cancer cells cannot live in an alkaline environment, nor in an oxygen-rich environment; nor can they thrive without toxins, &/or stagnation/anaerobic conditions! There are also lymph-system stimulants, homeopathic in nature, advisable in part due to the facts that the lymph doesn't move unless we do, and when invaded, must have help! The Naturopaths & Nutritionists @ CTCA should advise to include liver-cleansers & rebuilders(alfalfa, milk thistle, Alpha-lipoic acid, Beta-1,3-D-glucan, free-form amino acid complex, Glutathione + L-arginine + L-cysteine + L-methionine, Inositol hexaphosphate(IP6), SAMe, Selenium, & others. We may not choose from these lists as if a few preferences might help; rather we need do all we can to reverse this improper development, while exercising caution to not overload the body with too much of even the best things! God bless
you in your search for relief for your Mom: may you find hope in the successes others have achieved! Sincerely, and very much in your corner, MLM, ND
