Temporary Disability????

Yes, she needs to go on short term disability.  Tell her to contact her HR Department at work.  There are forms to fill out for her and her doctor.  She needs to get those going so that she doesn't miss out.  The kicker though is that you only get back 60% of your normal salary.  I went through surgery for my cancer and was out of work for 8 weeks and went on disability.

There is a federal law - FMLA - Federal Family Leave Act.  It guarantees short-term disability for up to 12 wks I believe.  The Act protects the job - an employer cannot fire or fill a persons job if they have to leave for self or family medical issue.  The employer is not required to pay for the time off, but there may be a policy through the employer to pay short term disability benefits.  Have her check the employee handbook and talk to the Human Resources rep at her job.
