What are the causes of Glioblastoma Mulltiforme?

Hello to all,

My name is Wendy and my husband was diagnosed with a GBM IV in this past Oct.  He had a seizure at my mother's funeral (who was also diagnosed with GBM IV in Dec. 06).  This is all extremely weird.  My husband is 50 years old, perfect health and we have 3 small children.  I could not believe that he had what my mom had.  The tumor was totally resected and we are now on radiation/temedor and have added Avastin as a trial.  Does anyone have any information on the causes GBM's?  I understand this disease is rare and the fact that both of my loved ones have it, I cannot understand.  I am concerned for myself and my three children.  Can anyone give me some guidance?

The body contains a series of enzymes and peptides that are usually in perfect balance in a person with no cancer. This is your firewall against cancer. In some people this protection is thrown out of balance, presumably by the MASSIVE amounts of chemicals that modern man ingests each month in the water he drinks, the food he eats, and the air he breaths. We have more chemicals entering our bodys in one month than our grandparents did in a whole year. One of the best defenses against cancer is a well made amino acid complex which bolsters this enzyme and peptide mixture in the blood stream.I hope this helps a little

Very interesting... so you are saying that the cause of a GBM is environmental factors?    Although this seems quite plausible, it is contrary to current medical opinion. Please quote your source... I'd like to do more research.

Thanks

Me too - haven't heard that it was enviromental, but it wouldn't surprise me. I would also like to see the source of this information.

Thanks

In most of the  medical sites I've been to the cause has been listed as inconclusive. Only one site stated that smoking contributed to brain cancer.

The only theory I can recall reading about was Industrial solvnets or chemicals or possibly by a virus.my Mom passed awy 6 months ago from thsi horrible disease aand it is my conjecture to go to as many symposiums as possible and start public legislation for higher funding for the research for this disease which by the way is on the rise in the cancer community.

My source for this is a man that has dedicated his entire life to cancer research and treatment-S.R.Burzynski.You may want to read "The Burzynski Breakthrough" by Rick Elias and I have 3 interesting e-mails from Burzynski that I will share with anyone.

Here are 3 practical things you can do to HELP safeguard your family.

1-Purchase as many ORGANIC FOODS as possible.

2-Consume the highest antioxidant food in the world which is the ACAI BERRY.

3-Purchase a well made AMINO ACID complex

My dads oncologist says it's from chemicals and the environment, and that in another 5 years things will be worse, and that this type of cancer will be common.

My Husband was dx2 years ago with a oligodendriglioma(not spelled right) and it was a grade 2-3 this past may it came back as a gbm grad 4 . In the past 12 years there has been 6 brain tumor in a 2 mile radius, We all live on the same side of a river and there is a mile dump just up the road about maybe 2 miles and a county dump about 5 miles up the road. I had our h2o tested and did more then the standard and all those test were ok but I too think its environment.

We were told by neurosurgeon, internist and oncologist that there is an oncogene present, and an environmental trigger for this thing to "turn on" it's programmed cell death. Most researchers believe this to be true of most cancers, but the proof isn't there to state it as fact. My mother also lived in a small town with major industrial plants on the river. Her county has the highest cancer rate in the state, and Tennessee has the highest rate in the country as of last year.
