I've seen many posts here regarding dry mouth.  I'm sure that is very difficult to deal with.  My husband's problem is totally the opposite.  He has an abundance of phlegm which keeps him from sleeping through the night.

Is there anything that can dry up the mouth?  He is also suffering through nausea and sore throat due to chemo and radiation.  But those he seems to deal with.  His primary problem is this overabundance of clear phlegm which is being produced nonstop.

Any advice?

My husband is having the same problem.  He is taking Mucinex which seems to help some.  Also, the more he manages to drink (gatorade, water, or soda) it seems to be a little better.  He also rinses with baking soda and water and that seems to help also.

Your husband's mucous problem will pass and probably be replaced by the dry mouth. In the meantime have him try Guafenesine. It can be purchased over the counter at any drug store. It is the active ingredient in Mucinex but unlike Mucinex it is not time released. That way you get the whole dose at once and I think it works better. It won't clear it up completely but it will help a little. The only thing that will get rid of the mucousitis entirely is time. It took a few weeks for me then one day I woke up and it was gone.

Good Luck!

This annoying side effect has pretty much gone away.  Thanks for the replies.

For anyone else that might read this thread. My doctor recommended a  suction machine. It was great and insurance paid for it.
