Subject: Carsinosarcoma reoccurance

I was diagnosed with OC stage 2B in July of 2006, had 6 rounds of chemo, carboplatin and toxil, CA125 of 8-9 through most of the chemo and four 9 months during "remission."  Carsinosarcoma is a very agressive type of cancer.

A reoccurance was discover during a physical exam in September of 2007, just 9 months after chemo completion. CA125 never went up. Doctor recommended doing nothing because the remissions was so short. I have some kidney damage which occurred during the first surgery which makes some second line chemos risky. Doctor was willing to try doxil.

We went for a second opinion which resulted in another surgery. Second doctor said the second tumor was too big for any form of chemo alone to work. He said he was able to get all the cancer out and wanted to do radiation to try to prevent another reoccurance. He said he didn't believe the carboplatin/toxil worked at all and the CA125 was no a good indicator for me. He also said my particular tumor seems to be a type that doesn't easily metastasize, but instead reoccurs in the same place as the original.

I cannot have repetitive surgeries because there isn't enough tissue left in the area to remove. I don't quite understand that part, but that's the picture I was given.

Anyone out there treated with radiation, first of second line?

I also have OC but the type I have is called Granulosa Cell and was in stage 4 when it was found.  A complete hysterectomy and the removal of lots of other tissue from my abdomin was required.  I am currently undergoing chemo treatments as a precautionary measure to help prevent re-occurance.  I was told that this type can re-occur almost anywhere in the body.  It is not restricted to the ovaries.  There is supposed to be a five year success rate with treatment.  There are several others that have OC at the clinic I go to.  Some of them are taking radiation treatments.  They seem to have much less down time than I do.  Some of them come from work take the treatment and go back to work.  One lady just finished her radiation treatments that last 35 days and is doing great.  If it is a chance that it could keep your cancer from re-occurring go for it!!!!!!!!
