Subject: sugar and protein in diet
Date: 11/25/2007
I have been reading the many posts on this website and find all of them very informative. I am however confused about sugar and protein in a cancer patients diet. My mother has just started chemo and the doctors have told her to eat whatever she wants at this point. From what I am reading she should absolutely stay away from sugar and protein as it encourages the cancer cells to grow. Is this true? What would you tell her to eat? Should she also stay away from fruit because of the sugar content? Please help, this is so new to all of us and we just want to do what is best for her.

Hi teach 4261 I was given a diet to follow when I was first diagnosed and that along with some supplements and other alternative treatments have returned me to good health. I don't mean to be insulting to traditional doctors but honestly they do not have much knowledge regarding nutrition. Not their fault. It is just not part of their education. Sugar does feed cancer and it is a no no for sure. As for the protein, I think it is the source that one should be careful of not the protein per se. I am going to attach the Regimen (diet etc.) here for you to check out. I have done so before and for some reason it usually becomes distorted and hard to follow when it appears on the board. It should appear with each paragraph separated etc. You can always contact me privately if it is not clear to you. Best regards Shemay ____________ A REGIMEN FOR REGENERATION AND DETOXIFICATION 1st thing in morning ESSIAC tea-----one hour later 6 to 8 oz carrot juice before lunch----- 6 to 8 oz concord grape juice before dinner---- 6 to 8 oz carrot juice 2 hrs after dinner---- 6 to 8 oz concord juice Last thing at night--- ESSIAC tea-------VERY IMPORTANT ALSO VERY IMPORTANT......Take 2 x 1,000mg natural source Vitamin C with each meal and before bedtime. Also research Dr. Lorraine Day on the internet - she has alot of good information as far a diet and how it related to cancer.  Also research the Hallelujah Diet it has a lot of good information.  God Bless

..stay away from sugar, all the research shows any cancer to be a sugar
guzzler, otherwise eat what you can get down your throat and doesn't
come back. It's a possible side effect of the chemo, the platinium
based bit, there are chemicals that control it, but, as always they
don't always work, and frankly, having cancer's enough of a pain
without spending half your life with your head stuck down a toilet..

..after thought..

..the first few days following the
major round, about the only thing i could keep down was black real
coffee, so that was all i took, oh and gin..

..what i'm saying is, it's more important to eat than it is to follow a given diet..

I agree that getting the nutrious food at all costs but with treatment we can do the best that will allow with the cemo and rad treatments. When i was so sick i ate only whole foods that i could swallow and was encouraged by my naturopath to drink protien shakes, even now in remission i eat whole foods as much as possible only organic chicken, lots of beans and tomatoes, basic whole foods. Never any white anything. And the vitimens, green tea extract, 2000 units of d-3, and detox the liver everynite, by rubbing castor oil on it and putting plastic wrap on it for 30 minutes. Also the immuine boosters, mushroom extract and 20mgs of melitonin. After two years i had a melt down tonite i ate sugar candy and icecream, i gave that up for yogurt. But i am regimented i do not eat anything that is prepared from a box, i do eat dairy real cheese. If you can't pronounce what is in it...do not eat it, i believe that cancer is the death of cells from not putting the right fuel in our bodies, these food companys would put anything in the food just to make a buck, it is making america sick. Thanks for listening

Thanks Kitty for your response.  I am so glad to hear someone has the same info. about this cancer diet that I have.  A lot of people believe Naturopaths are quacks.  I see one and have been in remission for 2 years now.  It's not easy, but then anything worth while takes work. Thank you for helping the recipient. Hope this helps them in their decision making.
