World cancer experts have finally declared what NewsTarget readers learned nearly four years ago: That processed meats cause cancer, and anyone seeking to avoid cancer should avoid eating all processed meats for life.

Hundreds of cancer researchers took part in a five-year project spanning more than 7,000 clinical studies and designed to document the links between diet and cancer. Their conclusion, published in the World Cancer Research Fund's report, Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective (2007), has rocked the health world with a declaration that all people should immediately stop buying and eating processed meat products and that all processed meat should be avoided for life!

Processed meats, the report explains, are simply too dangerous for human consumption. And why? Because they contain chemical additives that are known to greatly increase the risk of various cancers, including colorectal cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, leukemia, brain tumors, pancreatic cancer and many more. The report, published at this DietAndCancerReport.org website also recommends that consumers:

• Avoid all sugary soft drinks for life.
• Exercise at least 30 minutes a day.
• Get lean and fit, without becoming underweight.
• Limit consumption of ALL meats (even fresh meat).
• Breastfeed all infants for their first six months, avoiding infant formula.

Shemay,

Loved reading your information and facts regarding foods and proper diet.  Although I must say, I am a little confused about the subject on meat.  At my fathers last check-up a few days ago the Doctor suggested that he eat more meat..at least once a day, I presume because of the protein meat provides to the body.  Suprisingly he did not mention anything regarding processed meats or red meats.  I hear much about this subject and living on a farm with cattle, meat has been the center of our table sitting since I can remember.  If need be, although difficult, My father would eliminate or cut down on meat if best for his overall health.  We're just not sure if it should be encouraged or discouraged a bit.  I too have heard processed meats cause cancer as well as red meats. and what about chicken?   yes?...no?

Hi DaddysGrl I hate to say it but it is generally true that our allopathic medical professionals know next to nothing about nutrition. Not their fault.....it has never been considered a subject of importance in their education. The very fact that many of them continue to recommend meal replacement drinks that are so high in sugar for their cancer patients when it is a proven fact that sugar feeds cancer, is just another indication of their lack of knowledge in this area. Thank goodness that is changing and many are becoming more aware. As far as meat is concerned from what I read I believe it is the processed meats that are considered the most harmful because of all the nitrates, smoking chemicals etc. that go into the processing. Hams, weiners, luncheon type meats are all examples. My medical/alternative doctor and naturopath both recommend using mainly free range chicken and fresh fish with smaller amounts of organic beef. They discourage all pork products. Since you are raising your own beef then you will be aware of what hormones etc. are being used and will be the best judge of how safe it is for your father to consume. I have a Regimen for Detoxification and Regeneration (diet etc.)which I follow and will gladly send you a copy if you would like to see it. I also live on a farm (cash crop) and have had to take a good look at what part herbicides and pesticides have had to play in my developing this disease. Quite a learning experience I must say! All the best to you and your family Shemay

Hi Shemay,

Funny how you mention the misconception of meal replacement shakes/protein Drinks.  Our Doctor also recomended meal replacemnet drinks.  Following his recomendation my father purchased case full and after trying this drink he immediately threw up and stayed sick for a few days.  He refused to have any more of it and just the thought made him sick.  Many times our bodies take care of these toxins that should not be entering on their own.  Obviously my fathers body was telling him that was bad stuff and must be thrown up and out immediately.  You mentioned your being raised on a farm and the pesticides possibly having it's part in the cancers developement.  I think of this often.  My father sprayed the open fields for years and tended to crops including alfalfa, corn, oats, ect for many years.  We live in the central valley 2 hrs from San Fransisco although our surroundings are not high buildings and corporate industries, instead we are surrounded by farm land, dairy farms, fields with crops and open land only a mile away from the river.  We have always felt fortunate to have had the opportunity to enjoy the farm land and the slower pace it has to offer.  Avoiding the hustle and bustle would save us from the heart attacks, shootings and dangers of the City.  Surprise, surprise....we forgot about the chemicals, pesticides, the horrible stale air thta sits in the valley with nowhere to filter out, instead becomes stagnent.  Due to the area our water is also stagnent...bad to drink.  My father drank well water for years until finally was told firmly that we were not to drink the water that it was horrible and fulll of chemicals.  So did bathing in it make a difference?  Nobody mentioned bathing in it?  Our understanding was not drink internally this liquid!... apparently the frequent daily contact to our bodies and external skin was not harmful.  Or was it? possibly?..  who knows?  All these questions..what ifs... run through our heads over and over looking desperately for the answers that we will never come to peace with answers.  Leaving us only with another puzzle piece lost and without fit in this game of life that CANCER plays with us and those dearest to our hearts.  That in which was thought to be a blessing to our lives, has shown now to have been a contribute to this disease.  Always thankful to have had meat on the table, raised and cared for.  Was this a blessing or perhaps in fact working against us all along.  We will never know the direct answers, one can only make guesses and inform ourselves of the disease and the facts that are available to us.  oh...and also, live day to day.  Some days bad, some good, all depends on how he feels, then I go about accordingly.  Amazing how when loved ones are suffering and pained, you too ache with worry and sufferings.  We can only pray and hope.  God bless you shemay and those that you love around  you .

Good Evening Daddy's Girl;

"I too have heard processed meats cause cancer as well as red meats. and what about chicken?   yes?...no?"

I read an article awhile back titled: "Chicken, Cancer in every pot." I can't recall where I read it though. If it comes to me I will pass it along.

Any meat from a pig contain fungus associated with many cancers. Beef, lamb, chicken and turkey contain a variety of different fungi. As do mushrooms. Avoid them.

We need to consume foods high in chhlorophyll. Yellow is also a good color to eat. All root vegetables. Foods that alkalize the body.

My New Year's resolution is to consume more fish. I'm shooting for three times a week. Care to join me?

Take care;

Kevin
