Subject: trachelectomy question
Date: 11/26/2007

Hi,

I had an abdominal trachelectomy in June of this year. I have my first pap in December w/ the Dr. that did the surgery. I have noticed in the last few weeks some discomfort and not sure if it's normal. Its like pms symptoms w/out the period. I have achiness in my abdomen and back like I used to get but the new thing is these weird pangs of pain, not shooting pain but an ache or something in the vagina area, it's different, nothing I really have felt before. Has anyone else experienced this? Everything is different now and I am hypersestive to what is going on, not sure if I need to worry, which I am, or if it's just a symptom of major surgery.

Hi,

I had a trach in May of this year and have also had some adjustmnets to make.  It's as if your body has changed and you know have to get used to the new norm.  Specifically though with periods...is your doctor dialating you when you go for checkups?  Did they give you a dialator to take home?  As the tissue heals, it can heal together and cause the cervix to close or shrink.  This could be why your periods are so light.  I also have had really light periods ever since my suregery.  I didn't have one for about 4 months post.  I still get all the other fun PMS symptoms, but I only bleed a small amount for about 3 days.  Call your doctor and ask him/her about it and see what they think.  One thing I've learned from having cancer is if something doesnt' seem right to ask my doctor right away.

Hope this helps!

I have only had one post op exam, the next one is in December. I did not get a dilator, I didn't think I would need one. I will check with them and see, thanks for your response. It helps to hear from someone that can relate. I haven't had my period yet and that has been bugging me so it's good to hear that you had some delays as well.

Thanks again for the response. I appreciate it!
