Hi ANyone

My mum has secondary Gall Bladder cancer with ascites fluid. I don't know what to expect and was wondering if anyone has had someone close to them with this kind of cancer.  Mum is 68yoa and has been having fluid taps every 10 days getting just over 2.5 litres removed each time.  She has been vomitting a lot this week and has quite a bit of pain in the upper region of her stomach.  What can I expect?  Thanks.... deseparately upset.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your Mum.  My Mom is in her final stages.  She throws up all day every day.  Her liver has a large amount of cancer so it is shutting down.  She sleeps most of the time.

I hope you have Hospice involved.  They are wonderful.  My prayers are with you.  My Mom is only 67 and will probably pass this month or next.  Not sure what I will do without her.  Eileen

I am so sorry that your mother and all of your family is going through this.  You didn't mention if your mom was having chemo or not.  Historically,  there isn't anything that really treats the cancer.  My dad has GB cancer and is on Gemzar chemo - and his cancer is responding to it.  He also has to have his belly tapped about every two weeks and they ususally take 4 liters off each time (total of 14 liters in 6 weeks).  Dad doesn't have too much pain - it is usually relieved by percocet every 6 to 8 hours.  The only comfort I can offer is to make wonderful memories together as much as possible and if you or she believe in God, prayers for comfort and joy.  You and your mom will be in my prayers for comfort, healing and joy.

Hello all,

I am new to the scene.  My mom was diagnosed earlier this month.  She is only 61.  She had surgery to remove GB, portion of liver and some lymph nodes (12/14/07), and we will have chemo options presented next week.  What can you tell me about the course of the cancer, since it seems we're at the beginning, even though it was described as stage IIB/III...?  Is the chemo your dad takes in the form of a pill?   Does everyone who gets this head for vomiting and fluid removal?  Not as many people get this type of cancer, so I'm sure you've found that resources/information are lacking...any good sites for info you'd like to share?

Thanks...Kathy

My mom just turned 70 and has pancreatic and liver cancer. (panc was primary).  She was given a year and it has been a  year right now.  She went holistically and has had a very good year considering.  Her mind has been her biggest battle.  Lately she is having trouble eating but forces herself to eat.  She is very noshes but that is pretty much her only discomfort.  She does not have hospice care yet but we are in the process of getting help.  She is very angry and pissed off all the time.  She is sleeping more often and doesn't have a lot of energy, but is still in the most part taking care of herself.  We are there every day checking up and helping.  I don't know what to expect next, what happens next???  What a year!!  Susan.
