This is my first time posting.  Any information about chemo and after effects would be greatly appreciated.  My dog, Cindy was diagnosed with TCC about 3 weeks ago.  She is a german shepherd/husky and will be 11 next month. She is on piroxicam and pepcid AD,  her first chemo is tomorrow.

I would like any information or help about this first experience. To be honest, I have no idea if I am doing the right thing.  From what the oncologist said, the chemo would be done through an IV and Cindy will also have to have some more blood tests done.  Blood tests and an ultra sound were done on our first visit to the oncologist, then biopsies and an epidural were done on the second visit.  When the results came back, we were advised to take her for chemo.

We are all upset over this news and don't know where to turn or what to do for the best. Cindy is a very much loved baby in the family.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.  Kathy

Kathy,

Sorry to meet you here.  I have an almost 10yr old similar mix.  We had surgery but was not offered chemo - I think it was just too late for that for that.  She has done well - we put her on POLY-MVA (you can google if you are interested).  She has lived with advanced disease for over a year now.  She has probably had it for almost two years but we just didn't see the signs. Like many people here once we did see the signs our vet treated for bladder infection for a long time.

I assume you have seen the hundreds of messages here- I have learned a lot just reading them.  I'm sure you will too.  You will learn about food and supplements and just caring for them.

We have another mix (husky/hound) about the same age - I worry about her getting it.  It seems like with all the people here we could figure out some of the causes of this terrible disease.

Because of the leaking in our dog, she has an infection in the vulva area.

If anyone else has dealt with that please respond as I have read more than 700 messages here but not seen that and the vet says antibiotic ointment but as you can image she does not want you in that area.

Kathy, best wishes to you and I think after reading all these you will have a good idea what to do for Cindy.  It seems most of the dogs here have lived longer than given so have hope.

Mandi
