Subject: Second Leep
Date: 12/03/2007
Hi there. I am a 22 year old female who is going in for my second leep in two months. I had my first abnormal pap smear in July... Followed by a colposcopy followed by a leep. I just went in for my results and my doctor said they didn't get all the cells around the margin of the biopsied area, so she will do another leep in two months, once I am completely healed. I thought this was all over, but I guess it's not. Anyone with a similar story. Oh, I have high-grade CIN II by the way.

I too am getting ready to go on 12/6 for my second LEEP.  This is new and unchartered territory for me, and I am more nervous about it this time around.  My Pap smear was performed again and came back with mild-to-moderate dysplasia, so the doctor said that he feels he will need to go up further and do the LEEP and see if he can find the cells.  He had felt confident that things were okay on the first LEEP; but now I am facing another procedure.  I am not sure if you have had your second LEEP yet or not, but would be most interested to hear about your experiences and how you are doing.   Hang in there.  There are many of us who are going through the same uncertainties as you are, and do care about you.

Makes me feel better, since I hear a lot of older women get it...  I'm not the only one in my 20's

I am 37, I have only been able to have 1 child in 1997( had a uterine fibroid removed in 2003, which distorted my uterus AND I hadn't had a Pap since 2003. I was diagnosed a month ago with HPV and CINIII (carcinoma-in-situ) and got a LEEP 2 wks ago. Found out today that the biospy margins were affected, but not enough to be invasive cancer. A Hysterectomy is reccommended and if it reduces the risk of cancer - i say Take it Out!! And since we have been unable to get pregnant in the last 6 yrs, i believe my window of opportunity has passed, and we are fine with that.

If your margins are affected alot, then the Oncologist will rule out Cancer. I wouldn't do another LEEP, one should have given them enough of a sample to rule it out. They shouldn't go digging around until they scrape it all out. Let a more experienced specialist determine the next step, it could be invasive cancer, God hope not.

Thanks for the responses. Next monday, the 11th I go in for the second LEEP. I'm starting to get nervous again! Eek. I'm hoping this will be the last one I have to get. I have been eating veggies like crazy, taking Women's 1 a day vitamins, taking additional folic acid vitamins, and using condoms EVERY time my boyfriend and I are intimate. Hopefully this is enough to have healed me somewhat. I'll let you know how the 2nd LEEP goes. Wish me luck!
