Port Problem

Recent placement of chemo port in chest. Am having fair amount of pain - feels like it is pulling out. Is this normal?

Not sure what do your doctors say, my wife when she had hers pinned it to her clothing so it wasn't hanging and pulling, have you done this?The only thing we were worried about was infection. Careful not to clean too often exposing it to germs or not enough. Check with your doctor on this.

Thank you for the reply. I called the oncologist about this and was told that I may have been too active after the placement of the port. I have taken it easy to the point that I don't do much at all = this hasn't helped. Will be going back to my clinic this week to begin my chemotherapy - perhaps they will be able to find out why I am having so much pain. On the other hand - perhaps this is just something I will have to handle until the treatment is finished.

I had a port installed in October of 2004. There are different times that I have problems or pain with it. I think a lot does have to do with how much you use the area that it is installed in. Mine is installed in my upper left part of my chest/shoulder area and it hurts when I use that arm a lot. But I also had a tumor removed from my neck plus lymph node taken on the left side so I have some muscle damage also that I think affects it also. It is wonderful to have it installed vs. getting poked everytime for blood work, chemo, etc. I have mine flushed every 4-6 weeks. Matter of fact I am having it flushed this afternoon. I had the same sensation all the time I had my port in. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2000 and had the port late 2002. I thought at the time it must have been placed on one of the tender sites from the fibromyalgia but since then I wonder if it doesn't have to do with the lymph nodes in our chest area.

I suffered through it for four months of chemo. I know this isn't very positive for you but just so you know it probably isn't anything wrong, just one more pain to deal with.
