I'm new all of this. 23 just diagnosed with severe dysplasia or carcinoma-in-situ (CIN III). Let me start by saying I am terrified of doctors, especially those doctors after undergoing server trauma at 14. To go into the doctor was a big step when I began to experience bleeding every ten days that didn't look or feel like period related bleeding. I was also experiencing back pain and pain on the left side of my pelvic area.
I had not been in for a pap in over two years, seems the only time they got me in for one was when I was pregnant. Huge mistake apparently because I was told there was some abnormal cells identified by the pap smear. The next step was a colposcopy to get a better idea of the level of severity of the abnormal cells. This procedure was EXTREMELY painful for me. I had a lot of bleeding during and after the colp.
Three days after the procedure I received a blunt call from the nurse at my doctor's office. Apparently the cells were "extremely aggressive" and I would need to be brought in just as soon as possible for a LEEP procedure. I went in after much reservation yesterday Dec. 4, 2007 for the LEEP procedure. He said he felt good about what he was able to get but just kept saying he wasn't able to get it all and didn't want to risk doing any more because I was having so much bleeding. I was told that they were sending the material they removed into pathology and I would receive the results in about a week.
My question is did everyone who had a LEEP done have the mass sent in? If so what are they looking for? Could it have turned to invasive cancer in as little as 3 weeks? Should I be this worried? The doctor says he won't perform a hysterectomy on me, I'm overweight and only 23 and he says the insurance will not cover it? Should I seek a second opinion or am I being paranoid? I feel like I'm being punished for being fat. I don't know how many more colps and LEEPS I can go through before I have a panic attack. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
