My best friend of 25 years was diagnosed with stage 1 ovarian cancer 3 years ago. She was told it would be fine: " a walk in the park".. well it has been anything but! What was "nothing" to worry about has now become Stage 4. Her last CA125 was 13,000! She is ill, cannot eat, etc. Is being treated with Doxcil, spread to her lungs and God knows where else. I lost my 80 year old mom from lung cancer in December of 05..and now she is going through what mom went through, and much worse. The problem is that she does not want to know, and I believe that is good, she has such a "FIGHTING" spirit, but we all need to know what to expect. A nurse came into her room and said she was doing well for someone with "end stage" ovarian cancer. Is there any way for us to know to prepare how long she may have, if she herself does not want to know. We have friends and family out of state who just donot know what to do. But her CA125 results are just so high and the Doxcil is only making her weaker we think..but it is not our decision to make we just need a "REALITY" test and need to know if someone you love with these numbers etc.. is close to dying and if so isn't it the responsibility of the doctors to tell her at some point? It was so different with my mom.

Thank you for whatever you can advise or relate..God Bless all of you who are fighting this disease, I know there are miracles everyday! And for those who have family touched by any type of cancer, it is a cross to bear, my prayers go to all of you!

can't give any advice, not an md, but why don't they try something else if doxil is evidently not working? did she have any treatment when she was diagnosed the first time?follow-up checkups? or just removal of the ovaries? i have friends who are stage 4 & still with us; i myself had a ca125 of 3200 when diagnosed, stage 3c, doing fine; this is quite upsetting!
