My bother-in-law was just diagnosed with stomach cancer that has spread to the liver. They have recommended aggressive cemothaphy. My concern is with his eating and keeping his strengh up. He is already having trouble eating and the treatment is only going to make this worse. I hope someone out there has some suggestions as to diet that he might eat. I don't want to see him get too far down. He is only 56 years old and in otherwise great shape. Any help would be appreciated.
sorry to hear your news...however welcome to this website we have found it very informative. My mom was diagnosed w/stage 4 cancer and she has 2 more weeks of chemo to go. She did really well w/the chemo...we kept her weight with Glucerna shakes, 4 daily plus anything she could eat. Glucerna is Ensure for diabetics...we would mix it w/oatmeal, fruit juices anything we could. She ate a lot of pureed foods since that made digestion easier...pureed squashes, carrots, potatoes. We made her fresh carrot juice w/beets and spinach to keep her blood strong...no need for blood transfusions in her case she held her own. What type of chemo will he be getting? Mom had Cisplatin, Epirubicin and daily 24/7 5FU..this one really was hard on her body...she's had it on for seven weeks now and still two to go. Do lots of research on side effects..every drug is different...if it turns out he'll be on 5FU feel free to drop me message, there are some pretty intersting and painful sid effects to that one...the tips would be useful.
Keep strong and patient.
