I have just been diagnosed with Actinic Cheilitis after undergoing a biopsy of a small red area on my upper lip. I have been reading all of the other messages and don't seem to have the same manifestations, I never even realized I had anything wrong, I was being seen by a dermatologist for an area on my nose when he also noticed this small freckle like dot on my upper lip, otherwise I would have never even known anything was wrong.
I have had the area freezed twice before the biopsy and again after the biopsy, more intensly this time. I am wondering if anyone else has just had this treatment as well, as all the other messages seem to be undergoing treatment with creams?
Also, does anyone know the success rate of just cryosurgery; freezing, and how often it should be done and followed up with. I am not suppose to go back until 6 months and I wonder if that is too long of a wait in between to access the effectiveness of the freezing.
Thanks so much!

Hi, I had my lip frozen at least 3x and insisted that my doctor biopsy it. After she did, she put me on Carac cream. I am in the middle of the treatment. She was going to just have me put it on my lip, but with my hx. (many severe burns) I did my whole face. I am so glad. From my reaction, I would have had to have a skin graft to the right side of my nose there was so much of a reaction. As you said you didn't even realize anything was wrong. I was amazed at the number of actinic chel. that came up. I also did my chest and the back of my hands. Figured if I was going to be uncomfortable might as well get as much over as possible. I am really glad that I did. So good luck, I hope that what your doctor did cures it for you. But, as a nurse, I strongly recommend that you be proactive as to your treatment.

The only thing that I am sad about is that I have missed a free face lift as with as many lesions as I would have had over the years, it would have kept my skin taut. :)
