Linitis Plastica

my mums just finishing her 6th cycle see previous post linitis plastica please help, her consultant has said thats it o more treatement just wondered if anyone else in similar position, her ct scan at cycle 3 revealed the stomach lining had moderatly reduced so why are we giving up? my mum is only 46 and has responded well to chemo considering only required 1 blood transfusion, never neutropenic and has a bit more energy, eats a normal but small diet. has anyone got any advice, or any doctors out there who could suggest something, feel like going for a second opinion but its not really what my mum wants as she trusts her doctor!

I too was diagnosed with Linitis Plastica in May of 2006. I had 6 sessions of chemo, then had my stomach removed. Originally they told me that I had 8 months to live and could not have my stomach removed as it would not give me more time. Well, I proved them wrong. I am better and stronger now. I can't say that there isn't more cancer somewhere in me, but with having the stomach and adrenal gland removed (it had metasticized to the adrenal) I have had more time. The margins were clean after the surgery. I also had 5 weeks of radiation. I seem to be doing well. They are watching me closely. I guess my point is that your mother should NEVER give up. I hope she wants to live enough to try anything that the doctors offer. It wasn't easy, but I'm here enjoying another holiday season with my family. If I didn't think I could do it, I couldn't have...Attitude has allot to do with success.

Marlene, I am happy you are doing well.  My mom was diagnosed with LP in 9/07 she is currently on her 4th cycle of chemo, she had lost 20lbs and then with the chemo she started to lose more so now she is on TPN and has gained most of her weight back.  It seems she is inoperable based on her laporoscopy showing the cancer outside her stomach in her lymph nodes and on her peritoneum.  Could you tell me who your doctors are?  I would love to talk to them to see if surgery is an option for my mom.  Thanks so much, take care.

My dad was diagnosed with linitis plastica on 2/01/08.  He went to have his stomach removed and they closed him up after they determined that the cancer had spread beyond the stomach wall.  The oncologist will visit on Monday the 4th.  We are at Mayo clinic.  Any hope?  Any advise?

Marlene thank you so much for replying.  I am so happy for you and your family.  When they did your surgery, was the cancer confined to your stomach ( I know it went to the adrenals) but was it in the lymph nodes too? 

What chemo did you use?

Hi--my dad was diagnosed on 2/29/08--stage IV linitis plastica --during laproscopic surgery. We are in NY-Sloan Kettering...how is your dad doing? Is he undergoing chemo? My dad is having a hard time w the chemo..have you invetigated alternative therapies? My dad is 69 yrs old and otherwise relatively healthy. It is unbearable to watch this unfold. I hope your dad is feeling ok.

I am sorry to hear about your dad's diagnosis.  My dad is doing well with the chemo receiving 11 out of 16 treatments of not real aggressive treatment but agressive doses.  Today he was told that because he was having a hard time with the chemo and the cancer had subsided, they would stop the chemo for awhile and he could always restart it.  The doctors believe that the lining of his stomach has thinned and the cancer is not as strong.  My dad has a positive attitude and is a trooper.  He is 74 years old.  He is eating and dijesting his food.  The doctors seem to be pleased with his progress.  He is relieved to be taking a rest from the chemo.  Keep in touch.  Iamsadvpad

Hi--How is your dad doing?  Still off the chemo?  My dad, diagnosed 2/29/08 w LP Stage IV is still in treatment although they lowered the dosage because the drugs were just too strong and made him feel so awful.  He is 69 and has a great spirit and is positive about life on the good days...bad days are bad though.  Hope your dad is having a lot of good days.
