Hip/Lower Back Pain

Anyone that has rectal cancer, that has had rectal resection, chemo and radiation.  My dad finished treatments December 2006.  It's been a year.  He is experiencing lower back pain and hip pain sometimes.  Just started 3 weeks ago off and on.  Is this a long term side effect of radiation.  I have read online that it is.???Does anyone experience this?

Cynthia, have your dad checked. My husband had rectal cancer also and chemo and radiation. About 30 months later he started having back pain that radiated down the back of his leg. The X-Rays, CT scan, and PET scan report only stated lymph node involvement. He finally had an MRI that showed cancer in one of his vertebrae in the lumbar spine area. He is now taking treatment again. Hopefully, your dad's is just a side effect of previous treatment. Best wishes to you and your family.

 I had the lower back pain before i had any treatment - cause of the tumour pressing against my spine. It is also from a lot of years of not lifting correctly and will have pain to some extent most of the time.

It may be just a overworked back thru the years which isnt too bad. With a bit of massage and physio. it'll be manageable. Make sure he keeps active!
