I am post menopause this past June I  had a clear jelly discharge with a tinge of blood, fearing cancer I went right to an ob/gyn, she did a ultraound and biospy, I should say the PA did the dr didnt even look at the results. The biospy came back negative, she said she saw nothing on the ultrasound, I had my doubts, two weeks later I had a ct scan done on my kidneys etc and they noticed a mass on my ovaries. I then preceded to another gyn, she said it was a cyst and just wait and see, I was still concerned being post menopausal by a year,  Had another vaginal ultrasound done in October and she said it was getting smaller. Then here on a Saturday in December I have a dark bloody discharge which is light. Thick at first like a clob now just light.  I called the gyn on call and she said a cyst has nothing to do with the bleeding, and come when i can, Well, I am terrified of cancer and keep thinking I should have went to another gyn and not stopped back then,. Of course on sites here, it talks about how cyst can burst and bleed and this gyn told me no on the phone.  Anyone ever have these symptoms or did their ovarian or uterine cancer start this way? Seems the drs I have tried are so relaxed about it and I kick myself for not going to another one a more aggressive one, but after going to two, Scary isnt it.  If you have any ideas please let me know Thanks

HI, my advice is to see a GYNECOLOGICAL ONCOLOGIST. Not that you have cancer, but this is the person who is best to proceed with the necessary investigation and form a proper opinion.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I went back to my gyn yesterday and she said it was probably break through bleeding which could happen up to a year or longer after your last period. I was going through menopause last year in 2006 with the hot flashes etc etc.  She said she did blood work, and ultrasounds and both ovarian and uterine are slow growing cancers and mine were negative. The biopsy was too. Maybe the stress in my life brought it on or it was she calls break through bleeding, See how long it last since its spotting and proceed after the holidays. I wonder if one can even see a gyn oconologist without being positive tested first for cancer. I am scheduled for another ultrasound in Ap[ril, Just wait and see what happens and try to enjoy the holidays,  Thanks again and if I am still having problems after xmas I will find one and head to oconologist,

I echo the last comment.

As for the ultrasound, is your gyn ordering a transvaginal ultrasound? That's the one that is part of the initial assessment of ovarian cancer. Also, did she do a rectovaginal exam? I would insist on both of these.

Good luck.

For one year I went to my doctor with various complaints and I was told that it was menopause starting. Breakthrough bleeding, no periods, gaining weight when I knew I was not eating enough to do that. Constipation appeared and I could not pass anything without suppositories, or milk of magnesia to help. But because I was 47, I was told menopause. I started my doctor visits in January 06.

I missed my gyn appt in August 05, as work was hectic, and I could not seem to get an appt that was workable. So I planned on going in January 06. Not very many months in between.  I went to my regular MD in January - he told me to see my gyn asap.

I went to the gyn - went in the exam room, explained my complaints, she did not touch me. She sent me down the hall to get a transvaginal sono. She told me that I had a huge mass (the size of a canteloupe) and referred me to a gyn oncologist.  I saw him in the next two weeks.  The reason my gyn did not examine me, her sister had the same complaints a year earlier and she sent her to the same gyn.  Dr. Alan Munoz in Dallas. Hers was not cancer.  She got there just in time.

Dr. Munoz scheduled me for surgery in two weeks.  It was cancer - stage 3c. I've been on chemo now for two years straight with surgeries for cutting the cancer out called debulking. I'm going into my third year.

My advice to you is don't self diagnose at this point.  Make an appt with a gyn oncologist for a second opinion.  You will hear that ovarian cancer usually shows up after menopause.  But there are two 15 year old girls seeing my doctor for cancer.  There are many women who have this and they are not 45 yet.   What do you want to do?

I just turned 50 and I have 4 children.  One is out on her own, and my fear is that I will never see her get married or have children.  One is pregnant right now. I have a 13 year old son in the 8th grade and a 12 year old son in the 6th grade.  I may not see them grow up. But there are many 10yr and 20 yr survivors with OVCA, but our life is chemo and surgeries until we are able to reach remission. Some never reach remission. I also married a man who is truly wonderful and I may not be able to grow old with him.

While doing chemo, I cannot work because of the side effects for me. Can you afford not to work?

What do you want to do?  Take a chance?  I'm sorry to be so passionate about it, but it changes your life in many ways.  It is not worth taking a chance.
