Subject: Please help, I can't get a hold of my Doctor
Date: 12/16/2007

Hi everyone,

First I would like to say thank you to everyone who has responded and helped others on this site as I hope you will help me too. Back in September I had a CBC done because I would have days where I wouldn't feel "well" so to say but I never had a fever. The counts were as followed:

WBC- 7.4 range (4.8-10.8)
RBC- 4.1 range (4.2-5.4)
HGB- 13.7 range (12.0-16.0)
HCT- 37 range (37-47)
MCV- 89 range (81-99)
MCH- 33.3 range (27.0-31.0)
MCHC- 37.3 range (33.0-37.0)
RDW- 12.2 range (11.5-14.5)
PLT- 236 range (150-450)
MPV- 7.2 range (7.4-10.4)
NEU- 56.3 range (50.0-70.0)
LYMP- 38.1 range (20.0-40.0)
MON- 3.9 range (4.0-10.0)
EOSI- 1.4 range (1.0-5.0)
BASO- 0.4 range (0.0-1.0)
ANC- 4.16 range (1.80-7.70)

The RBC was a bit low, but the doctor said it was fine. Then in the beginning of November, I went in for my routine testing and another CBC was done:

WBC- 5.8 range (3.6-11)
RBC- 4.37 range (3.80-5.20)
HGB- 13.9 range (12.0-16.0)
HCT- 40.9 range (37-47)
MCV- 94 range (81-99)
MCH- 31.8 range (26.0-33.0)
MCHC- 34.0 range (33.0-37.0)
RDW- 12.4 range (11.5-14.5)
PLT- 262 range (150-450)
NEU- 57 range (50.0-70.0)
LYMP- 36.0 range (20.0-40.0)
MON- 4.0 range (4.0-10.0)
EOSI- 2 range (1.0-5.0)
BASO- 1 range (0.0-1.0)
Platelet EST - Adequate

I also had a Metabolic Panel done and that was normal for all ranges.

I'm concerned about the drop in my WBC, does this indicate anything? Is this considered on the "low" side. I'm too scared to repeat the test and I admit I over analyze so  much because I'm in school for Nutrition. Please somebody if they can help me with these results I'd truly appreciate it. If this was leukemia, would there be other abnormalities such as in the platelet count? Thank You!

Hi, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Your WBC are within normal both times, it may look like it dropped because when you had your CBC the first time you said you were not feeling well - and probably had an infection (which was too mild to cause fever- infections can cause the WBC to rise). Tell all your fears to your physician on your next visit.

But then again we are either cancer patients or caregivers of persons with cancer here - we have a different "normal". If the values you posted were that of my husband's CBC- I would  be jumping for joy.

I dont think you have anything to worry about. Your wbc is perfectly normal. I dont think you need to have another cbc either.

Hi Just!  I completely agree with xyzabc -- your results are what those of us with cancer can only DREAM about.  Don't worry -- you are normal all across the board!!  Medico's often seem to worry more than those of us who don't know how bad things can really be, but there is a strong link between cancer and stress so DON'T stress over anything that doesn't warrant it!!  Cath

Thank You everyone for your responses. The littlest things worry me and cancer is such a big fear of mine. I'm only 22 and I have so much stress in my life from other things and just don't want this to haunt me as well!! I do over analyze things, and need to learn how to relax. The numbers are off by 1.4 so that's not a big deal, I've told myself that other things would be abnormal if something was REALLY wrong.. again THANK YOU.. you guys here are wonderful!!! hugz and kissez!

This may sound crazy, but I found another CBC that I had done after the first one in September. This one said that the WBC was 6.8. It seems like my WBC is gradually decreasing. Now I got worried, I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow. The 7.4 WBC was in the beginning of September, the 6.8 at the end of September and the 5.8 in the beginning of November... ugh :(
