My 49 year old father was diagnosed with stage IV cholangiocarcinoma with mets to the lungs in August 2007. While we tried chemo (Gemzar & Xeloda) it was unsuccessful and he was pulled off of all treatment on December 1st. 2007. Although my father will not make it to Jan 1st due to the uncontrollable spread of the cancer in his lungs per his doctor, we were fortunate enough to have found a cancer treatment at Northwestern University performed by Dr. Salem and felt I needed to share with those fighting this nasty cancer. It is called Therasphere and is specific to liver cancer/cholangiocarcinoma only. It is the first type of internal radiation that shrinks tumors. My fathers tumor on his left lobe started out at 19 cm and with only one treatment it shrunk down to 12 cm. It is supposed to cause necrosis to the blood vessels and ultimately destroy the tumor without causing any of the side effects of chemo. The only side effect my father felt was fatigue but he has been feeling that anyways. I hope that this treatment is able to help others and the staff at Northwestern are unbelievable great and kind and will do whatever it takes to help you. God bless all of those with cancer and best of luck.
