Subject: Is Chemoemobilization killing my mother?
Date: 12/19/2007

Hello,

5 years ago my mother was diagnosed with Hep C and Cirrhosis.  Her liver Dr. told her that she had about 5 to 6 more years without complications.  He was right on point.  Here it is 5 years later and mom was diagnosed with H.C.C. in July.  She had a procedure called chemoemobilization done in August and last week had a second treatment done on another tumor they found on her MRI.  Both tumors were about 2-3 cm and we were told by the doctor that they were small (maybe the size of a peanut).

I search high and low on the internet for answers and never seem to find what I am looking for.

Since this second treatment my mother now has severe ascites and edema.  Her primary Dr. gave her two direutic (sp) prescriptions today in hopes of bringing the swelling down.  He said that her liver may have been nicked during the procedure and this is what is leading to her swelling.  Does anyone know if this is true?  I hate to see my mother like this and she is in constant pain.  She can hardly walk and she pushes herself to do the lightest tasks.  She doesn't brush or wash her hair as much anymore because it is falling out.  I am going to take her to get her haircut and go wig shopping...try to make a fun day out of what will actually be a crappy day for her.

I feel like this treatment is killing my mother.  She is slowly (in reality rather quickly since July) going downhill health wise.  Since her diagnosis I have been in denial and not until recently has it really started to hit me that she is very ill.

To make a long story short I know that this is serious but how serious is it?   The Dr.'s never seem to want to say anything probably due in part to every liver patient is different...but still...I do not understand what is going on.

I have no idea where you are from  so all i can do is mention that my husband has very good chemobolization treatment from upmc.  In pittsburg.  Dr. T. Gamblin is the dr. Who had over seen ed's treatment.  The liver cancer institute is there. The starzel center.  Run and get a second openion.  My husband just had his forth chemoebolization treatment. This time at st. Luke's in bethlehem pa.  We were concerned about the traveling across state during winter months.  My husband has cholangiocarcenoma. Inoperable and he is receiving pallative care.  Also i would get in touch with dr. James canady.  He is saving lives most doctors could not even attempt to.  He is in mc keesport pa.  Works out of allegheny general also in pittsburg.  You have some options put before you .  I found all of these men very helpful.  My e-mail is
