Well I was diagnosed with high risk HPV and adenocarcinoma in situ, in October 07. I went in for my Conization on Dec.13th and then went in today for my post-op. So it came back negative, which is great. However, if I am correct, this is something that can come back at any time, which I realize is why I will be going for tests every six months, indefinitly. But my question is this...how many of you have been told you were clear one time, only to have the cells to reappear, regardless of time (ex.weeks, months, years, etc.)?

I am happy with my results and others around me are much more ecstatic and make me feel like they believe that's it, but I don't feel I am cured in anyway. I am just safe for now...

I know I should be happier but I feel this is a lifelong battle to keep healthy...

Sorry just rambling...but thanks to anyone listening. :)

First of all, congratulations on getting a favorable report.  No, it doesn't mean that you'll be healthy forever.  It means you are healthy right now and you don't have to think about it for another six months because there really isn't anything you can do about it anyway.

I know exactly how you feel.  Even though the tests come back negative, we will always wonder if/when the other shoe will drop.  I think that our friends and family like to believe that we are totally cured because it makes THEM feel better.

Getting diagnosed and going through cancer treatments makes you realize that nothing in life is a guarantee, especially one's health.  We've lost our "innocence" about that but most people continue living their lives never thinking about how things could change in a minute.  In some ways we are the lucky ones because we now appreciate the little things.  Geez, I have about 2 feet of snow in my yard and had to shovel the walkway; I told my grown son that, even though I should be complaining, I'm happy that I'm strong enough to do the shovelling.  Nine months ago, there's no way I could do it.

So just be happy that you feel well right now and that the tests came back negative.  It's much better than not feeling well and having the tests come back with bad news.  Good luck.
