There seems to be limited information & the posts I have found on here are old.  Is there anyone currently going through this out there?

My Dad was diagnosed with this a few weeks ago.  He is currently going through a combo of chemo & radiation.  His doctors have never seen this before in Arizona - looking for resources in AZ, Philly (where I live), or Boston (where the rest of our family is).  Please advise?

 Thanks

Small-cell cancer of the urinary bladder is a rare cancer for which more effective treatments are being developed. Because this cancer behaves similarly to small-cell cancer of the lung, researchers have been studying treating SC bladder cancer like SC lung cancer.  Recently, researchers found that persons with locally advanced  disease responded favorably to a combination of intensive chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Hi, Kathy. I've never heard about small cell bladder cancer, but my wife has been battling metastatic transitional cell cancer (in her lungs), and the oncologist says that it's acting strangely for TCC. I'm going to have to learn more about this, and I'd appreciate any information you uncover about it.

Thanks.

Jack

My husband was diagnosed with small cell bladder cancer three years ago and went through chemo and radiation.  There is an organization BCAN which is specific to bladder cancer.  Also, in Arizona there is a Dr. Lamm who is well known in the bladder cancer field.  If you want further info, let me know.  Marilyn

I was originally diagnosed with small cell carcinoma of the bladder 8/06.  Treated with 4 courses of chemo and RT to baldder.  Developed recurrence in 7/07 (now tranistional cell ca) with a metachronous lesion to T-spine.  Over past 7 months treated with cystectomy, prostatectomy, ilial conduit, RT to T-spine and 6 courses of chemo.  Doing much better, with only 1 more course of chemo to go.

Glad to hear you are doing better and have only one more treatment left.  May I ask what type of chemo was recommended?  My Mom has small cell carcinoma of bladder but during chemo experienced pulmonary issues that landed her in hospital.  She has done radiation but should continue some type of chemo.  We are searching for an alternative to carboplatinum and VP16 as cancer is traveling to spine at T9 and L4 areas and chemo is suggested.  Wishing you the best.

Kathy, I know this message maybe late but my father too has small cell carcinoma of the bladder.  He had a reconstruction of the bladder done in Cedars Hospital of Miami, FL which is now named University of Miami Hospital.  My father was 71 when diagnosed and although a very difficult recovery for him and incontience during the nights especially and minor leakage during the day I'm not sure whether to say comfortably that this was a good choice.  He had chemo before and after surgery back 10/06.

However now 4/08 they have found a mass in the pelvis and we are awaiting to hear from an oncologist.

It was very difficult for me to find another person who had this form of cancer in that it's so rare.  I hope you can get back with me.

Prayers & Huggs,

Ellie

Hi Ellie,

My father is 71 and sadly also has small cell carcinoma of the bladder.  He has gone through all the chemo and radium and was the told the tumor was gone and we were all so excited.  Too our horror only a few weeks later he went into hospital for another minor op and during this they performed a cystoscopy and came round the following morning and said the cancer wasn't gone and not sure how long he has left.  It was so devastating and they are now saying he can't have more treatment as his body couldn't take more chemo and radium and surgery isn't an option.  Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
