My father was diagnosed with gastric cancer and he was operated and left 10% of his stomach. They also found 4 lymph nodes with cancer from 11. Now, he is going to start with his quimo and radiation 5X a week for 5 weeks. He was diagnosed at stage III. My question is what does it mean that the cancer went to the lymph nodes? His treatment is for prevention only. But I'm not sure what's going to happen now. He is doing great when eating, but of course he is losing weight. Where do we stand now. Can the cancer spread to other places? It has been a roller coster.

Good Day, my best wishes to your dad and his family members who are fighting this terrible disease.

Yes, it can spread and he should be scanned regularly to ensure that it has not.  My wife was diagnosed with Stage IV that had spread to her liver but we caught it way early and she is now in remission.

If the cancer had spread into lymph nodes than it may have spread to other spots.  We have used CT scans and Pet Scan to detect where it was.  We have also used Endoscopies to get biopsies from the affected areas.

I am hopeful that you doctors are on top of this and wish him the best.  Please make sure they are scanning him to detect possible other sites.

Bless you for responding! Today, I found out that the radiologist is suggesting the whole family to test for Helicobacter Pylori.(a stomach bacteria ) that my dad had. I did some research right now and is also related to ulcers and heartburn which is linked to stomach cancer as well. I have a baby and a 4yrs old which hs been in contact with my dad a lot. I can believe this rollercoster doesn't stop. have you heard about this?

Thank you so much! God
