My wife was originally diagnosed with Stage IV Stomach Caner in April of 2007.  Two small tumors, one in her stomach and one in her liver (each only about 1-2cm in size) were put into remission following 8 rounds of ECF treatment which was completed in early September.  Starting in October she began another 6 month round of treatment as a protective measure which included Oxaliplatin and Xeloda (pill form of 5FU); scans in December show no cancer thus she remains in remission.

She will complete the 6 months of protective/preventative chemo in March of 08.

My question is what we do after that?  It appear we have the option of discontinuing chemo, or:

We have heard that there is the potential option of remaining on a low dose of chemo (not sure what drugs this would include) for an extended period of time. Has anyone had any experience with this and what drugs did they use?  We are concerned that this option would simply allow for any potential future cancer to become resistant to the drug we use in this low dose option.

Just wondering.  Wishing everyone an improved 2008!

Thanks, MomwithKids!

Did your wife have any part of her stomach removed?

No.  Since it had already spread the oncologist at Sloan was very firm that surgery was not an option when it was diagnosed.  Surgery does not seem to be an option at this point as the cancer is in remission for 6 months now - so why operate?  What would you operate on?
