I just read the chemosensitivity testing message and am surprised no one who is posting messages has posted anything regarding the danger of the blood brain barrier being permeated by Taxol, Carboplatin or any of the other platinum drugs.

I had a hysterectomy in February where a stage 1C tumor was found and removed. Because it was partly attached to the peritoneal cavity my oncologist wants to give me Taxol & Carboplatin as an adjuvant therapy. Now that I know what they can do, I'm against it and have sent him a letter to that effect. The Topetecan seems like it might be a better bet than Doxil (because of the hand and foot itching) or the Taxol- Carboplatin. Does anyone have recent experience with short or long term side-effects from Topetecan?

What effect does it have? have there been any studies long term? I just did 6 sessions of it after a hysterectomy and ovarian cancer stage 1B.

Jacky,

If you read the 1st (oldest from last July) and newest (posted today) messages on chemosensitivity testing you will see what this person GDWAPUL has posted about the fact that these substances can permeate the barrier and allow other substances that can carry cancer to enter the brain and cause brain cancer. I'm still trying to find out what the dosage levels are which cause it or if all do. I also found a website in Noval Scotia that lists info on chemotherapy drugs including whether or not it will cross the blood brain barrier. When I looked up the drugs on this site http://www.cancercare.ns.ca/inside.asp?cmPageID=202

it said Taxol did not cross but carboplatin did. Were you presented any other choices besides this pair? I guess you did the sessions 3 weeks apart? My Onc is suggesting 1 Carbo & lower dose Taxol followed by 2 more lower dose Taxols in the 1 week apart, then a week break. What were your side effects?
