I'm 19 Years old and am having the leep procedure done on Feb 4th and is freaking out. I'm really scared to tell you the truth. I dont know what to expect. I thought th colposcopy hurt really bad, so what should I expect or what. please help me!

Did your doctor discuss the other three methods? Did your doctor also discuss the type of dysplasia you have? Insurance companies love LEEP because it is cost effective, but it may not be the best method for every woman's body. Your doctor should discuss each of the four methods with you, which includes the pros and cons, and then you should be the one to choose the method that is not only the best for your condition but the best for your comfort level.

Hi don't be frightened I had LEEP on the 16th of January and like yourself I was frightened of the unknown. I even went to my doctors to get something to calm me down, I am glad to say I did not take anything but silly as it seems I had a Indian head massage the day before I went in which I have to admit did the trick to relax me. the whole procedure took 20 mins and i did not feel a thing all the fear and anguish before hand was more painful. I had a local instead of a general and I did not feel a thing it was over before I could think about it. If you are nervous about a male doing the LEEP ask for a female. All that was a week ago and I am just relaxing and getting myself better all I had was cramp like a period cramp I took pain killers to help with this but it did not last long. Please do not read too many articles on this subject as it will scare you but please trust me that it is not as bad as it sounds in the articles. You will be fine my biopsy hurt as well but this procedure did not hurt as much as that did. Take care let me know how you get on.

 

Hi. Are you saying that you just had the LEEP done in your doctor's office? I am scheduled to have my LEEP done in early February at my doctor's office. He said that he would give me two injections in my cervix (which would feel like the biopsies he did with the colposcopy). Once numbed, he said it would be pretty simple. He said that since I did well with the biopsies (I barely felt them) that I should do fine and not need to have this done in the hospital with anesthesia. After the biopsies, it did start to hurt progressively over the afternoon and then I was sore the next day, but fine after that. Does this sound similar to your experience?

Hi I live in the UK and I had my LEEP done as an out-patient at our local hospital I had a local anesthetic I think I had 4 injections into the cervix all the way round the edge so I was completely numb in that area I felt no pain after the LEEP except a mild cramp in my stomach like a period pain. My problem after my biopsy is that I got an infection. Hope this is of some help. I am still off work after my LEEP on the 16th Jan, I am making sure that I get myself well first and that I get no infection please do the same if you can. I'm 26 years old and I had the LEEP procedure done on Jan. 23rd, 2008.  While it was uncomfortable, it wasn't a whole lot worse than the colposcopy. There were a couple times where it felt like a strong pinching, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected.It went very quickly and I only had mild cramping that day.  I went to work the next day, I haven't had any problems at all, just a little clear fluid coming out.  

My best advice is to make sure your doctor completely explains to you what is going on.  Even though it might sound scary, it's better to understand what is going on rather than be imagining all kinds of things.  

Thanks to you both, I feel much better about having this procedure done next month. The colposcopy didn't bother me that much, so I figure I should be fine. I hope you both have good news when your biopsy results come back! Right now my procedure is scheduled for February 19th, unless I can get it moved to an earlier date. Thank you all for the great information on the leep.  I get to have the leep done too.  Found out I have CIN2 from my colposcopy biopsy.  I was really nervous for the colposcopy, but I didn't think it was much worse than a regular pap.. After the horror stories I heard, I was a mess and thought the pain would be unbearable.  My doctor was awesome.  She made me feel at ease and talked with me about everything.  I wouldn't want to do it again, but I felt relieved it wasn't bad at all... 

 So, I never had an option of being put under for the leep.  My doctor said she is going to do it in her office.  She said it won't hurt and told me she will numb my cervix first then complete the leep.  I'm wondering why so many people have had the procedure done under anesthesia, but others aren't.  I guess if it's not that bad, may as well just have it done awake.. 

I just had a leep done last Friday.  They put me under general anethesia.  I don't know why either.  I was actually shocked to hear that they would do it just as simply as a colpo, or even a pap, with local.  I know that I told them I was freaked out and wondered if that is why they decided to put me out.  It was scary.  But I literally had NO pain for the first three days.  Now, I'm feeling like someone kicked me in the back.  And I feel like I have fairly uncomfortable cramps.  Not a lot of bleeding going on. Which is good. 

Overall I am glad they put me out. Even though the anethesia made me pretty sick for 2 days and out of it... I didn't feel anything, and felt like I was being taken VERY seriously and also being taken care of.  I too was in Outpatient. 

You are lucky you have a woman doctor. She sounds great. Does anyone know what CIN2 means? My doctor told me my biopsy was a "2 going on 3". When I see him I'm going to try to get more information. I thought this was originally on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being cancer, but I'm not sure what it means. When are you having your LEEP done? Please let me know how it goes. Good luck!
