So I got this white spot in my mouth about 2 days ago. At first I figured it was a small cut, because I was eating some sort of food and it did scratch my gums, so i figured thats all it was. It's in an odd spot too..its on the top gum, kind of at the point where the gums and the skin in the back of the lip meet..up in there.

Then, because Im a hypochondriac, I started checking symptoms of oral cancer...this white spot is the only thing that would be a sign. And it hasn't gotten bigger. I also put a bit of peroxide on it, and it got little..bubbles- like what would happen if you put it on a cut on the skin.

I'm hoping it's just  a canker sore. I have smoked for a year and a half also. So I know that increases the chances of cancer.

I plan to get it checked out if it does not go away within 2 weeks or so.

Any help is appreciated.

Oral Cancer is a very rare cancer, and most of the people that get oral cancer are very heavy smokers/drinkers and over the age of 50.  BUT there are getting to be more oral cancers in non-smokers under the age of 50...so I would get it checked out by an ENT and even if he says it's nothing, I would keep a close eye on it anyway...because ENT's can be wrong.

The first thing you need to do is QUIT SMOKING!!!!!  Don't do it. Quit NOW and don't do it again!  I have talked to sooo many people on these message boards that were smokers and now have oral cancer and lung cancer and now they're kicking themselves for smoking all those years.  Just quit.

The next thing to do is make a regular dental appt. at least once a year.  Not only because they check for oral cancer in the check-up, but because oral health is important to the rest of your body. Very important...so keep your teeth clean.

I would still go see an ENT and have him look at it because it's better to be safe than sorry.
