Pazopanib Study

My wife is in a clinical trial using Pazopanib for recurrent cervical cancer. I know the drug has had positive results in Phase I trials with other cancers. Anyone out there had any experince or information with Pazopanib? We are of course hoping for a good response. Chemo was never going to be an option for us as it yields low positive results for cervical cancer that has spread. Her side effects have been minimal and she has tolerated the drug well. Im hoping this drug works well for her and others as it would be such a great alternative to chemo treatment.

I'm sorry to tell you I know nothing about it. But, my mom 56-stageIV cervical cancer-spread to bladder and rectum ww/ nodules in lungs. She did 25 not 28 treatments of rad. They stopped her for some reason. And one round of chemo -light doses of carboplatin because of her kidney function.At this point she is opting for no more treatment. But this sounds good. I am just wondering-how is your wife. What stage? Its hard to find people with stage IV cervical cancer. If you dont mind please tell m e about her condition. Such a tough time, but hang in. Look on the NCI web site under clinical trials to see if anything would be appropriate for your Mom. Also check out DCA. There is a Doctor in Toronto who is prescribing DCA at the Medicore clinic. DCA has shown positive results with tumor shrinkage and disease stabalization. My wife was originally diagnosed a Stage 2B in 2005 but after an MRI in 2007 she would now be classified Stage 4. Sizable Tumor on her spleen and liver. Locally she was offered Carblotin chemo but were told it yields little in the way of life extension. The Doctors here offered us no hope or advise so we left the hospital depressed. You must be your own advocate with this disease and be aggresive in your treatment options. I have researched the options available for recurrent cervical cancer and for us the Pazopanib study was the best one currently available as it has a proven track record with other types of cancer. It is not yet an approved drug and falls into the VEGF family of tumor inhibitors. It is designed to prevent the growth of new blood vessels and may stop or slow tumor growth. My wife has been on the drug for one month now and has no side effects. She is at about 90% and functioning normally, needs a nap in the afternoon but feels good most of the time. She has no pain and says she thinks she can't "feel" her tumor as much. She is scheduled for scans at the end of the month and that should tell us what effect the drug is having. Your Mom and My wife are in the same boat, non-curable, but that does not mean that life extension and or remission is not a possibility. Remember no battle was ever won by someone who did not fight. The molecular biologists who developed the preventative vaccine for cervical cancer are now developing a theraputic vaccine for recurrent cervical cancer that has shown 100% success with lab animals. Human trials for this vaccine will be available within the next 2-3 years or sooner. The Gene Silencing therapy is based upon "silencing" the E6 and E7 genes of the HPV virus that causes 90% of Cervical cancer. As one researcher told me that eventually they will have the cure to one cancer, that being cervical. Time is the enemy. Please explore and research what treatment options may be appropriate for your Mom. I have done a lot of research and am happy to try to answer any questions you may have. Keep positive and make the best out of every day. We have two young sons that are very active in sports and keep us hopping. My wife has always had a positive additude and has been an absolute rock which makes things easier on everyone. Sorry for the cliches but "You can't make a hit without swinging" Keep swinging

Thanks for responding. I hope all goes well with the scans at the end of the month. You seem to have done alot of research as I have about this type of cancer. What state are you in? When I looked up that pazopanib trial, its offered limited states. Does that mean you have to go to that state? I have look for everything, trials, herbs, acupucture, alkaline diets. Everything I do my mom is shutting down. She doesn't want to be sick from the chemo, that is why she is giving that option a pass. I wish my mom had more hope,like you said you don't win a battle if you don't fight. But,ultimitely I must accept that her decisions are hers and hers only. I would like to know about this Pazopanib study as well.  I live in Indiana, and have had 3 different rounds of chemo over the past 3 years, for cervical ca recurrence. Sometimes having too much chemo kicks you out of studies, has anyone else had this problem?? Also wonder if anyone has had luck w/cancer treatment centers of america??Also-does anyone else follow their ca-125??  Mine keeps going up it is at 60-and (35 or below is normal).  (ca-125 is generally followed in ovarian ca) Any responses would be welecomed.  I am 39 w/12, 10 & 6 year old and plan on beating this.

Someone very generously referred me to this study. Even when I realized later? that invovlves patients that had undegone chemo, and what I was looking for, was a biotherapy that doesn't use chemo, I checked this website:
