Neurophy Treatment

As a result of being treated with Thalidomide and Velcade, I developed severe neurophy in both feet. My MD prescribed  Gabapentin which resulted in no improvement. He recently precribed Lycria which I have been on for two months. There has been a small improvement from the Lycria.

My question to all those out there - Has anyone had success in treating neorophy with another prescribed drug or over-the-counter supplement?

I too have neuropathy in my feet and hands caused by taking  thalimide. So far nothing has helped. I tried lyrica for a short time. Maybe I didn't try it long enough, but I didn't see any improvement from it. I am currently trying alpha lipoic acid and metanx with little results. Keep us posted. Poppy

Hi Andrew --

I was on Lyrica for a couple of months and my neuropathy vanished - as long as I took the tablet -- but I had to stop because of the cost.  I have been on gabapentin for 15months and gradually the pain has gone and I have been left with just the pins and needles.  If I don't take the capsule (300mg) once a day, then the tingling makes all fine motor tasks impossible. Without the pain, all is possible!  Craig will probably have natural options for this problem.  Good luck, Cath

I do know that fish oil (5-9 grams per day) will more than likely keep the neuropathies from developing. My wife (who has been on Thal and Vel) has kept them at bay with this product. When she forgets to take it ... the neuropathies in her feet immediately start developing. Back on she is ok. Not sure if the fish oil will help reduce chronic neuropathies, but it might be worth trying.

Regards,

Craig

I am posting twice in the hopes this message is read as it seems some of these questions do not get many replies, sorry if it bothers you but I just want to encourage you all.

Hi I am returning here after a year in abscentia...I am one of the most fortunate people in the world to have survived end stage MM. My last check up 3 weeks ago had me 100%.  I did 98% natural but it does not work for everyone.  However I have been reading all these posts and my heart goes out to you all as I knew pain like no other.  As I did NOT take chemo I did not suffer the neuropathy.  A lot of my fellow compatriots have.  I noted a post on Fish Oil that worked well.  Often natural remedies are needed to keep the body in check. Chemicals can only do so much.

Some of you need to check with Cancer Treatment Centers of America as they offer alternative treatment along with recognized therapies.  I am sure they have someone to help guide you and would have great suggestions on neuropathies.  http://www.cancercenter.com/

All MM patients should stay away from sugar, take B vitamins to lessen the neuropathy especially the B6 another huge immune system booster is CoQ10 at least 500 mgs liquid caps daily.  Epicor. Go read the history of Epicor and you can buy it inexpensively at Swansons Vitamins.

Body Mind and spirit are things that heal, laughter, support , getting rid of pain.  I wish you all the best and would love to see you all get well.

My mother had the same problem as you.  I believe she was on the same drugs as you also.  She just passed away after battling MM for 7 years.  She never had any change with her Neurophy..
