Subject: Lupron caused hot flashes
Date: 01/12/2008

I received my first lupron shot some 8 weeks ago and although my flashes were once 5 per hour they have subsided to one every 30 minutes.  Apparently my body is acclimating. Assuming they will continue to lessen, will the frequency likely increase when i get my next lupron shot in approximately six weeks ?

Did you doctor suggest anything for the hot flashes?  I had the problem also, but I got a prescription for Megestrol AC 40 MG TAB , generic Magace 40MG TAB to counter-act the hot flashes.  The problem with that is they made me extremely hungry. Of course I only had one hormone shot while I was awaiting Brachytherapy.

I take Lupron and when I got my first shot it seemed like the hot flashes were very frequent, now that I have had a couple of more shots I don't notice them near as much, especially in the daytime.  I take as the previous poster talked about, (Megestrel) which really helps in diminishing the severity of the flashes.  I really only notice them at night probably one every coupe of hours.  Just something you have to live with if you want to fight PCA.

As well as the time factor and  medications to help symptoms, nutrition, exercise and supplements can also assist: soy products in the diet and red clover as a tea, extract, or supplement can benefit.

Things which might  trigger hot flashes can be very hot drinks, coffee, tea, alcohol, spicy foods, intense exertion, bright lights and sun.

I finally gave in and started megace 20mg just 6 hours ago...already i have noticed substantial improvement in frequency, from every 25 minutes to an hour between incidents....perhaps i'll finally get a decent nights sleep

By way of update....Eight days after taking Megace 20mg one tablet daily my flashes during the daylight hours suddenly stopped completely.  They continue to some extent at night but not with the former severity and I can sleep through them.

  Megace has been my miracle.
