My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday January 22. I have a big tumor but it is high up so the colorectal surgeon has every hope of sparing the lower end, thus no colostomy. I also will not have to have pre radiation or chemo. This has to be a direct answer to prayer. I am quite nervous but extremely thankful for a very competant surgeon with a great reputation, a loving family and friends, and super people even in this web site who don't even know me but write me such kind supportive notes. There is something good about hearing from people who have the same problem. Thanks everyone!

Best of luck to you on January 22.  You will be in my thoughts.

I have often described my battle with colon cancer as shit--both literally and figuratively.

Good Luck with your surgery tomorrow!  I had a transanal excision 11/13/07 and was fortunate that the radiation brought the tumor from a stage II to a stage I so I didn't have to have an additional 6 mos. of chemo.  Can I ask why you didn't have presurgery radiation and chemo?  Were a stage I?  Anyway, I will say a prayer for you tonight and please post how you did.

tumor completely contained in the wall. no nodes involved. I got downstaged post op from a stage 2 to a one and from t3 to t1. will have an oncology consult in march don't know at this point if i will nedd chem or radiation. this has been a real hard thing though, just feel dreadful. Had a full abdominal incision, lost 1/3 of my rectum. trying to get regular again.

Have you had any word from your doctor as to your next step? I was wondering if you are having diarrhea from the removal of 1/3 of your rectum? I had colorectal cancer (stage III) diagnosed Jan, '07 and since then have had chemo/radiation (30 treatments), surgery to remove a portion of rectum as well as part of my small intestine, followed by more chemo (oxaliplatin - 3 mos).  My last 2 pet scans showed no cancer but I have been left with chronic diarrhea.

Keep us posted as to your progress. Any info you might have regarding my problem would be most helpful.
