Has anyone had any success with homeopathic meds. for nausea? This week has been tough. His next treatment is scheduled for tomorrow. We called the drs. office because he has been so sick and they said to bring an overnight bag. I feel like he will be admitted (which is not a bad thing). When he left the hospital last week he weighed 184. He weighed 173 today.

Good Evening GG;

You may want to visit the Multiple Myeloma page and ask a poster there "PHOTOG" for his regimen. He is quite knowledgeable and very willing to share his experiemce!

Take care;

Kevin

I think you probably have to do the antiemetics like Zofran and Emend for the best relief, but I have used homeopathy in conjunction with them, when the nausea, vomiting and acid got too much.  Although they didn't totally relieve things, there was always an instantaneous sense of relief from the symptoms.  I considered seeing a homeopath who works with cancer nosodes as a way to try to prevent it coming back again, since there has been some work in that area.  I know if you were to ask my husband, he would be thankful for the relief homeopathic has given him.  I've been a self prescriber for years, but at times with bigger issues have seen a homeopath for higher potency use.  We use carbo vegetabilis for gassy nausea, ipecacuanha if he's actually throwing up, and acidil (combination) for acid stomach.  Also use sinusalia at times for full sinuses, which create nausea and vomiting for my husband, but he's more likely to take benadryl for that.  I think part of the big fluctuation in weight can come with dehydration too.  I've seen my husband go in for a few hours of hydration and walk out 3 lbs heavier.  During the 1st round of chemo/radiation we used zofran, but never quite got a handle on it because it got ahead of us at the onset.  During the 2nd and 3rd rounds of chemo, he used zofran daily and added Emend on the day of chemo, and the following two days.  The difference in nausea and vomiting was astounding, and his weight didn't fluctuate as wildly as round 1.  He was never a big person, so he just doesn't have the weight to lose.

Hi,

    I will be praying that he gets some relief soon. These treatments are tough. My mother had a couple of stays in the hospital during her treatments. Hopefully he will feel better soon and can get through the treatments. Keep us posted.

I asked the doctor about how she felt about us using the homeopathic drugs and she said not to use them during chemo because they interfere with it. Do you know anything about that?

Totally off the subject...I read where you said that you were going back to school next week. Are you a teacher? I teach kindergarten and I am scared to death that I am going to take something to daddy. I usually change my clothes and always wash my hands and use sanitizer. Anymore suggestions?

Hi-Tried to post twice earlier and lost both of them in the void.  We used Zofran on 1st round but it wasn't enough and the vomiting was endless.  He tended to be better a day before the next chemo treatment, and was having radiation at the same time.  The vomiting got ahead of us from the start, which is an issue.  2nd and 3rd rounds of chemo used Emend with Zofran and this worked much better.  Rarely vomited, and if he did it was the mucusy stuff as opposed to stomach contents.  Was still nauseous, and diarrhea which was life threatening was a huge problem, but we used homeopathy when the nausea got bad with relief.  Also used acidil (combination) when acid seemed to be getting ahead of us and got immediate relief, which is more than I could say for Tums or Maalox.  A homeopath would probably say the toxins in the chemo would make the remedies not work, but that's not my experience.  Mentioned homeopathy to oncologist who did not object (she was raised in Europe where homeopathy is much more widely accepted and used).  I would not use liquid zeolite during chemo or even for a while after, since it flushed out heavy metals which are frequently the base in chemo drugs, and would always tell any supplements since things can interact in strange ways at times.  I suspect doctor just doesn't know much about homeopathy and is urging caution.  This is a very rough regimen of chemo drugs.  I'm going back to school as a student.  Working on medical coding certificate in hopes it is work I can do at home if husband needs caretaker again, or find job in medical setting (with benefits) if not.  We've been self employed for 20+ years, and he's only made it back to work parttime twice in the past 2 years, between surgeries and treatments.  The disability check is not enough to live on, so I'm looking for options.  I would think being a knidergarten teacher would get your mind off your Dad a few hours of the day, and bring a little joy to balance the sorrow of EC.  Will keep you in my prayers.

I actually kept a box of surgical masks, and if anyone felt at all like they could be catching something, they wore them.  Also kept hand sanitizer by the door for people coming in.  My friend who's Mom had lung cancer just didn't allow anyone in if they had been exposed to anything, but being with small children, you're always exposed to something.  Try to get enough rest (I know that's next to impossible when stressed), eat well and give yourself some space.  It will keep your immune system strong.

Thank you for all your help! I hope that your schooling works out. The best scenario would be that your husband will not need you, but the next best thing is to be able to work from home.

You are right! When I am with my little ones I don't have time to think of anything else. They are great medicine for me!
