Maxillary Sinus Based Melanoma

Subject: Maxillary sinus based melanoma
Date: 01/17/2008

My husband was diagnosed in August with malignant melanoma in his left maxillary sinus.  He has since undergone surgery to remove the maxillary sinus completely, followed by 6 week, 5 days a week of radiation, followed by 4 weeks, 5 days a week of Intron A (Interferon), and is currently attempting the maintenance phase of the treatment.  He had minimal side effects in the radiation or intense Intron A therapy, but is all of a sudden finding the side effects untolerable in the maintenance phase.  He has already spent 3 days inpatient due to these side effects.  We are wondering if there are any other treatments available, and also what kind of longevity he can expect if he stops the maintenance phase.  A CT scan of the head and neck have shown no new tumors.

He only started feeling like he has cancer in this last 2 weeks.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

thanks,

Missy
